Pakistan, Indonesia to intensify cooperation in defence production

ISLAMABAD (updated on: March 29, 2007, 20:33 PST): Pakistan and Indonesia on Thursday reiterated their desire to intensify and increase co-operation in the area of defence production for mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries.

This was agreed at a meeting held in Ministry of Defence Production, here.

The Pakistan side was led by Secretary Defence Production, Lt. General Shahid Siddiq Tirmizey (R), while the Indonesian side was led by Lt General Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Secretary General Defence, Republic of Indonesia.

A detailed and comprehensive presentation was given to the Indonesian defence delegation highlighting the capability and potential of Pakistan's defence equipment manufacturing units.

The Indonesian side highly appreciated the indigenous efforts made by Pakistan for the establishment and re-strengthening of its defence Industry.

The meeting agreed to undertake joint ventures in the area of defence production so as to benefit from each other's experience.

It was also agreed to increase co-operation in the areas of training, exchange of visits by both sides and enhance interaction between defence officials of the two countries.

This would tremendously contribute towards consolidating the defence ties between Pakistan and Indonesia. Both sides emphasised the need for translating the existing sentiments of co-operation into reality.

The meeting was also attended by Major General Ali Baz, Pakistan's ambassador to Indonesia, Major General Tariq Salim Malik, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence Production and other senior Military officials of Government of the Pakistan.
