Putin was just speaking to the gallery ... Russia knows very well the pakistani support and sympathy for Chechnya rebels and other parts of central asia !

For Russia in today's changed scenario and in the future China is the main threat and not USA ! India and Russia will always stay as all weather friends!

dude, once you are saying that Russia is changed today then why you couldn't understand strategies and politics are also changed by the time depends over seeking mutual interests. Pakistan too very changed so you have to understand that Ziaul Haq and Mushrraf were not whole Pakistan but partially dark times of Pakistani history. Why i am saying partially because it was Musharraf who convinced Putin for supply of RD-93 engines to Pakistan in more than one and half hour one to one meeting and still Russian defense export agency didn't reluctant to provide more engines to Pakistan. Where question about sympathy of Pakistan toward Chechnya than why don't you raised question over Pakistan's sympathy to Afghan Mujahidin who played key role in defeating USSR? Time has gone and many things are changed by the time albeit to help Chechen doesn't in Pakistan's interests but Saudi Arabian interests who are dreaming Islamic Emirates in North & south Caucasus.

More over US participation in Chechen war is no more secret so you should understand very carefully when it is said;

Moscow also believes that the key to the stability in Russia’s soft belly — Central Asia — is ties with Islamabad, which has the potential of creating mischief along and inside the borders of the former Russian empire.

Enough evidence why Russia came with positive thinking with Pakistan and what Russia looking for shaking hand with Pakistan? Yes, for the stability of Central Asian states because they know what PAKISTAN IS. It’s in their interests to use this power positively to play effectively in the region because Pakistan became with great importance in their strategies where Pakistan’s interests also seeking for country like Russia to balance US aggression as they experienced well.

What we need is, stable relations with Russia federation fulfilling our national interests in the region, not more not less.

I don't think so because India will not go off course which could hurt Russian Interests but Indian itself successively found balance of relations with both Russia and US which Pakistan still couldn't.

"Pakistan is our closest ally"....sound similar...only that it was said by the US......we'll have to wait and see what happens!!!!

Nothing going to be happened extraordinary but by saying "Pakistan is most important partner" (note: he didn't say closest ally) Putin throw ball in Pakistani court so now Pakistan has to decide what he want and how he will secure its regional strategies establishing relations with Russian Federation and SCO .

Most probably entering in SCO may reduce chances of any future war in between Pakistan and India and they will behave more responsible working with two powers, there is lot of work to do before Pakistan & India's joining SCO.

Pakistan and Russia must improve their relations, Pakistan is energy corridor to Central Asia and Russia can use our warm water ports for trade and we need Russian investment in energy sector, defense and Railways.

But we already have final deal worth 70 Billion $ for next 20 years. 35 Bn $ only for 250 odd PAK FA, Brahmos-1,2, MTCA, ACC, T-90 and many more which are know and unknown.

I hope Russia become friend of Pakistan. We maintained good and balanced relation with Both Russia and U.S. (more with Russia) then I am sure Pakistan can also do that. Good Luck !!
