What's new

PIA ranked among world's best airlines.

So what does cannibalization of aircraft indicate? It clearly shows you don't have the funds to purchase spares outright. Its simple economics. Like the rest of the country, PIA too is broke. This is a cyclical issue. Don't have spares, can't run as many flights which impacts revenue generation which means less money to make outright purchases of spares.
sir if this case they can sale this plane and buy more parts . why cannibalize it ?

We inducted B787's but that did not help. New equipment helps some. but training, professionalism and attitude are bigger issues.

Biman service is run by fat over the hill aunties in the aircraft and tired lackadaisical managers in the HQ incapable of route planning to utilize the aircraft properly.

No airplane sitting in the tarmac makes money.

Biman even hired several UK gora managers to run the airline. They got into trouble with idiot egotistical air force staff who thought it was their Baap ka airline.

They tried to sell Biman but no one wanted to buy it.
no gov should have involve in business not at all in airline one . time for gov own airlines was ended in late 80s .

Because nobody wants our old/used aircraft. The ones being used for cannibalization were probably deemed too expensive to bring back to flight status and thus used to keep the remaining fleet air worthy. The reality is PIA needs a complete fleet overhaul with new aircraft.

The reality is that PIA needs to be sold off and run as a commercial enterprise and not as a government supported feeding trough for corruption and inefficiency.

One has to ask what level of corruption makes an airline that never has spare seats and ticket are expensive.
Perhaps its not even all due to corruption (I am sure there is that too), rather the fact that for each one of our aircraft in service, we have 250 employees (previously it was more than 500/aircraft). Basic mathematics would tell us that with this level of political bharti, there isn't much of a profit margin owing to expenses and retirement pensions owed.

Privatize the airline or just cease the operations.

Pakistan cannot afford to have an airline that’s bleeding money.

PIA ranked among world's best airlines
Recorder Report Updated 06 Nov 2021

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is now ranked among the best airlines in the world that have the safest operating records after achieving perfect safety ratings from the European air safety watchdog SAFA (Safety Audit for Foreign-Origin Aircraft), with zero index.
SAFA conducts periodic and surprise checks for all the non-European Airlines at different airports across the world.
PIA, being under consistent scrutiny ever since the pilots license scandal surfaced, was subjected to more extensive audit checks at most of the international airports by SAFA inspectors.
However, with zero findings being recorded by SAFA since last few weeks, it has lowered it safety hazard index to zero, which is a perfect score. Sharing his views on achieving the Zero index safety ratings, PIA CEO Air Marshal Arshad Malik thanked Almighty Allah for his blessings and congratulated PIA team for their sincere efforts working tirelessly to achieve highest ever safety ratings.
He said now after the restructuring of PIA's Safety Department, more stringent in-house safety checks are being undertaken on all its international flights. A new safety awareness culture has been introduced in PIA whereby special emphasis and career incentives are given to employees whom adhere to the culture.
He further said PIA has offered professional support to the regulatory authority in Pakistan as well, aiding them to clear the ICAO Audit in November of this year, paving the way for resumption of flights to west.

See how accepting flaws and correcting them works out in the long term vs brushing it under the carpet. This is for the 1000's of passengers that use PIA.

I said the same thing when the pilot scandal surfaced, we will come out better. Temporary pain is worth it in the long run against burying your head in the sand.
Hopefully PIA never falls again to nepotism as it has over the previous regimes.

There is a reason why mature and responsible airlines and regulatory authorities spend millions of dollars in investigating each crash and not try to actively cover up.
yea once upon a time in 1950s maybe up till 1980s. then it was downhill when democracy found this profitable organization.

Kuwait Airways is another example of this, use to be one of the best in 70s, 80s and most of the 90s.

Indian govt sold off Air India to TATA group and now Singapore Airlines has bought a 25% stake for $250 million in the privatised Air India so that Air India Vistara WILL MERGE creating India's largest International carrier and second largest domestic carrier with 218 aircraft.
Pakistan should have sold off PIA when there was opportunity, now its difficult
