Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is not the first Pakistani Oscar Winner!

The first Pakistani to win an Oscar is Mir Zafar Ali. The Golden Compass picked up the award for Best Visual Effects and Mir Zafar Ali was one of the 'Effects Technical Director' at Rhythm and Hues, the company which undertook the project. People do not remember any Pakistani picking up the award because he was in the background team.

Mir Zafar Ali has worked in the background for the following films:
2011 The Cabin in the Woods
2011 X-Men: First Class
2011 Hop
2010 Yogi Bear
2009 Aliens in the Attic
2009 I Land of the Lost
2008 The Mummy
2008 The Incredible Hulk
2007 The Golden Compass (He won the award for this)
2007 Surf’s Up
2007 Spider-Man 3
2007 Ghost Rider
2006 Open Season
2006 Monster House
2005 Stealth
2004 The Day After Tomorrow

That is interesting. And probably got very easily overlooked because the technicians unfortunately do not get the attention and acclaim that they deserve. The actors and directors easily get the spot-lights turned on to them.

Anyway that was a nice fact to get to know.

Its always good to know that such talented persons are working in Hollywood or for that matter anywhere in the world belonging from Pakistan.

Its our film industry and its pathetic progress that is killing the chances for these kind of people. Visual effects specialists and other people don't even have a chance in Lollywood. Thats why they are forced to go into Hollywood, their movies are known for special effects

the guy worked with a big team, sharmeen went on solo
