The Ministry of Information and Culture has said insecurity and violence has left a huge impact on the tourism sector of Afghanistan.
The ministry expressed these statements in the “Third National Conference on Tourism Industry Assessment” held in Kabul on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
Minister Sayed Makhdom Rahin said the government suffered loss of $5 to $7 billion dollars each year as the tourism in the country has been devastated by insecurity.
Despite many efforts, Minister Rahin said the government has failed to grow the tourism industry because of the ongoing insecurity.
However with all these challenges, last year more than 20,000 tourists visited Afghanistan.
“One of the main obstacles to this industry is insecurity. But there are some other bottlenecks too. The growth of this sector is linked to the need for high attention to the country’s infrastructure,” Makhdom Rahin said.
Governor of Kabul, who was also present at the event, mentioned the Ministry of Information and Culture was required to find ways to growth the tourism industry.
Based on reports, the highest number of foreign tourists visited Afghanistan during the government of Sardar Daud Khan.
