US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has offered to support Bangladesh in holding a free and fair general election for a “prospering society”.

Blinken congratulated Bangladesh in a statement on its Independence Day on Sunday, praising the country for its efforts to combat climate change and shelter Myanmar Rohingya refugees, says a bdnews24.com report.

“With a rapidly growing economy, an increasingly well-educated workforce, and a dynamic youth demographic, Bangladesh is quickly becoming a regional leader,” he said in the statement.
Blinken said the United States is “proud of its partnership with Bangladesh and of the resulting achievements made over the last five decades”.

“Most recently, we have made real strides together battling Covid-19, tackling climate change, and promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific region.”

“We commit to working with you in support of free and fair elections, open to all,” Blinken remarked.

“By committing to democratic norms, good governance, human rights, and media freedom—all of which are hallmarks of developing, stable, and prospering societies—I believe Bangladesh will achieve its great potential.”

LOL. time for bangladeshi period of stability and economic growth to end. now that US has offered help, unrest will follow.

No translation, please. The USA needs to stop Chinese incursion into the BoB in Sittwe port through MM. That is why it needs a govt in Bd that supports the US position.

A fair general election will satisfy the USA. A non-elected Hasina is seen as a menace to the US interest in the region. She should face the electorate this year without fear.

New US sanctions on BD may cause it to lose a big Western market for garments.

U.s does nothing for free. May god bless the demi God mortal country of the blonde and blue.
Inability of rest of the world to live peacefully forced United States to be an interventionist power during and after the WW2. Otherwise US was an isolatinoist and neutral country during 1920s and 1930s. It dismantled much of it's armed forces during that times which it created during WW1. It entered into naval forces limitation treaty with UK in 1925 and blown up huge destroyers, cruisers etc in the Atlantic. It reduced it's army to just 137,000 personnel, smaller than Romania in that time. But such retreat of democratic power proved disastrous for world peace and Nazism and Fascism overtook Europe and Japanese imperialism and conquest engulfed Asia. United States was forces to enter into WW2 overcoming non interventionist and isolationist looby within their country to turn the tide of war against the Nazis and Japanese.

Afrer the WW2, Soviet Union and to some lesser extent China started to fund various Communist guerilla forces around the world and they engaged in civil war to forcefully turn their countries into Communist dictatorship. United States was forced to intervene in such a situation and declared the Truman doctrine under which US pledged support for opposing forces of armed Communist groups. Without American intervention during the cold war, the entire world barring some Western countries would have turned into Communists dictatorship, which would not have been a very pleasant world.

United States is certainly driven by self-interest and sometimes it had to take action which run contrary to the values they profess, but in this world where might is right principle is still dominant and taking advantage of good-natured people or country is taken as cleverness, acting without self-interest would be suicidal. Still United States and much of the Western World now as much driven by their professed ideology of promoting democracy, human rights, pluralism and rule of law as much of self-interest. They have aligned their self-interest in most cases with their ideology and just causes which is unfortunately not the case with the rest of the world.

The US must not let her weakened position in the region dissuade her from bringing democracy to Bangladesh.

BD exported $10 billion or more worth of goodies to the USA and it paid the money in cash and dollars. But, you are telling the USA took these goods FREE of cost.

How about helping the Rohingya? The USA provided $1.9 billion to the Rohingya cause so far.

Are you sure about what you are saying? I am happy to note that you did not claim that the USA would steal money from BD.

Sad but true, for many places that I held dear to my heart. That graphic pic could have been much better like including blond and blue demi mortal god and possibly and upside down cross.
