New Delhi: Vice Admiral Anurag G. Thapliyal, a senior Indian Navy officer with vast operational experience, Friday took over as the Chief of Personnel at the naval headquarters here.

An Indian Navy press release said Vice Admiral Thapliyal has held various key command and staff appointments ashore and afloat during his career.

The admiral has commanded anti-submarine warfare patrol vessel INS Ajay, missile corvette INS Khukri, stealth frigate INS Tabar, and indigenous guided missile destroyer INS Mysore.

He has also been the Flag Officer Commanding of the Visakhapatnam-based Eastern Fleet (FOCEF).

The Admiral has held numerous key staff assignments including Chief Instructor of the Indian Navy's Navigation and Direction School, Chief of Staff of the Eastern Naval Command and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Information Warfare and Operations).

He was the Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy since September 2009 before taking over the current assignment.

A Navigation and Direction specialist, Vice Admiral Thapliyal is an alumnus of the Naval Academy, Wellington-based Defence Services Staff College, and US' Rhode Island-based Naval War College.

nice ... hope he continues the good work of his predecessors who have brought the navy foremost amongst all the three services in terms of modernization.
