CPEC updates at Gwadar

Indians are certainly going to contact their puppets this day - whether it's a direct attempted attack or within the vicinity.
Probably won’t be on that day as it will seen as a direct insult to President Xi, but in the weeks or months afterwards…it possible.

Fish & Fishing Industry: 11 containers of building material coming to Gwadar today from China

By Yasir Habib Khan | Gwadar Pro Jan 30, 2023

GWADAR, Jan. 31 (Gwadar Pro)-To launch the first Fish & Fishing related industry in Gwadar Free Zone (South), the first consignment of Haixintian, consisting of 11 containers of construction material will arrive at Gwadar Port today from China.
Haixintian Pelagic Fishery Overseas Base Company (Private) Limited, one of the investors of Gwadar Free Zone, has acquired an area of 5,911 square meters to construct a Fish and Fishing industry. A workshop will be established on an area of 2,000 sq.m.
The company has a wide scope of business in boat maintenance and repair, materials & equipment & spare parts & basic life supply for fishing boats, fishing and port-related management, warehousing, logistics, cold storage warehousing, seafood cold-chain processing, fishing seamen & crew training, aquaculture farming, shrimp farming, and fish farming.
It will be the first fishing and fish-related industry in the free zone. It has already completed all legal and documentation procedures to operate in Pakistan. Since the industry relates with the expertise of the local workforce, it has the potential to benefit the local community in both job and business opportunities.
A few days back, construction materials for the steel structure of Hangeng Agricultural Park at Gwadar Free Zone reached the Gwadar Port. It was the first batch of 31 containers of materials aimed for the construction of the factory likely to commence commercial operations in March. Hangeng Agricultural Group specialises in planting aloe vera, processing and export of agriculture products as well as animal husbandry.

Local labor should be the vast majority of the workforce in the fishing industry. IMHO, it probably should even be other Pakistanis, just like how people in a village would want people farming on their land.

Even in deep sea fishing, locals from the coast should make up the majority, IMHO. It’s a transitional industry until people can get educated to work in the factories or move up the services skills ladder.

Good relations with local labor and the Local population in general will go a long way to prevent future problems.

Any news on the hospital that was meant to be completed?

Was supposed to be finished end of 2022?

CPEC has been put in cold storage by the Chinese. There is general consensus among all nations that Pakistan is economically a sick unhealthy entity. Pakistan must first pay off it's debt before it can proceed as a normal functioning state. China agrees with this assessment.

They primarily want to see some competency and reforms in the government instituions first. At the moment Pakistan despite on the brink of default continues to engage in its clown show without taking their situation seriously.

First comes a competent government and reforms, then you begin to make moves so you can repay your debt, but Pakistan cannot do the first properly.

When educated Pakistanis themselves don't have any faith in the current setup and are exiting in droves who else is going to trust a bunch of charlatans? The world is slowly shunning Pakistan. No one is willing to provide loans and bailouts. Pakistan should know it is the eleventh hour.

There is only one talk with regards to Pakistan. When exactly is Pakistan going to default and how do we secure the nukes. Everything else is irrelivant at this point.

The morale of the nation is extremely low, and people are feeling a little hopeless.

It reminds me of 2010-ish era when terrorist attacks were happening and the economy was very bad, people started to lose hope. There is an interview of Musharraf talking about it where he said even he was feeling a little hopeless. but they managed to salvage it.

it can be done but the jernails must stop playing their games. strict and effective reforms must be passed and enforced. we must prioritise competency and meritocracy.

Yes, it was supposed to be completed by December 2022.
No updates are available.

The generals are the number one problem. They don't want to let go and are power hungry.

Does this indicate Barrick Gold would back a rail line from Reko-Diq to Gwadar. This could be the project to make Gwadar a viable port ASAP. A rail line from Reko-Diq to Gwadar and across to Karachi could connect Karachi based business to Gwadar, and able to utilized the underused capacity at the port to export, especially to Gulf customers.

With a rail route from gwadar to Deko-Diq, it would connect to the line going to Quetta. An extension of the Quetta line to Herat would link to the Turkmenistan rail network and the route to Turkey via the Caspian, Azerbaijan and Georgia. The shortest potential rail route around Iran. A project that the Saudis should back to counter Iranian influence in Central Asia. and now that Turkey and Saudi are mending ties, a project the two could work on together with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Central Asian countries. With both Turkey and Saudi looking to diversify their economies, accessing the Afghan Lithium mines with the shortest routes to their respective countries while cutting out Iran makes the most sense.

For the Saudis this could also make their plans for a GCC railway more economically viable. Fast freight services between Muscat and Gwadar taking less than 24 hours could connect to the Asian rail network and Asian consumers. A continuation of the GCC railway into Yemen (which could also help them rebuild Yemen economically on tier terms) and across the Red Sea into Africa, and then joining African rail networks there would place them at the center of the fastest east-west trade in the only part of the world with growing populations and lots of potential development ahead of it.

If Pakistan can put itself at the center of a global rail based trade hub, especially connecting the GCC/Africa and China, it will have outflanked Iran and India, and can work to rebuilt its influence in the GCC, while building up its influence in Africa.
gold and copper mining volumes - wouldn't that be too low to sustain a permanent rail ? or are they planning to export the ore out of balocchistan and smelt it elsehwere?

80% work completed on Gwadar 1.2 MGD water plant

By Yasir Habib Khan | Gwadar Pro Feb 18, 2023

GWADAR, Feb. 18 (Gwadar Pro) - 80% work has been completed on Gwadar's 1.2 MGD Seawater desalination plant, said Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) Project Director Dawood Baloch in an interview with Gwadar Pro. It is a gift from China with a cost of Rs. 2 billion to help mitigate the water miseries of the local people of Gwadar.
Showing satisfaction over the pace and scale of the project, he said that the 80 percent completion has sparked hopes that water desalination plant will be officially inaugurated many weeks ahead of its scheduled completion timeframe. The original completion time is set on 30 June 2023, he explained.
On a query, he said that all related equipment and apparatus have reached Gwadar and technically they will be installed within two months promising the early operation of the desalination plant.
Replying to a question, he said that alongside the ongoing construction of the 1.2 MGD seawater desalination plant, a process of laying down around one kilo meter long water supply line from plant site to Gwadar's main water supply network has also been completed in a record time. This water supply line will come into operation once the water plant begins to function, he added.
He mentioned that through this connectivity, potable water will be supplied to inside taps of residents of Gwadar. The 1.2 MGD Water Desalination Plant is spreading over approximately one acre of land.

This means the official CPEC website has not been updated in a while as construction hasn't started according to them...

Any idea on the hospital which was being built?

Only news I know of about hospitals in Gwadar recently is this:

Gwadar Health Sector: GDA Hospital becomes Indus Hospital

By Yasir Habib Khan | Gwadar Pro Nov 1, 2022

GWADAR, Nov 1 (Gwadar Pro) - In a game-changing health sector development in Gwadar, the GDA hospital is set to become the Indus Hospital, a high and quality name and position in the field of social service and health in the country, on 1st November (Tuesday). A formal ceremony to hand over GDA hospital to Indus Hospital is to take place on the same day.
Chief Secretary Balochistan Abdul Aziz Uqaili and Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Mujeeb ur Rehman Qambrani inked an agreement under the guidelines of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo.
With the transformation of the GDA hospital into the Indus Hospital, the people of Gwadar who have been lacking quality health facilities over the decades will receive free health services. This development will put an end to the health trauma for locals of Gwadar as earlier they had to cover miles of distance to reach Karachi to get medical attention and aid. In most emergency cases, families had to see the deaths of their loved ones on the way to Karachi from Gwadar.
The new health facility will also help reduce health bills because a whopping expense that would have had to be spent on transportation and travelling costs will be cut to almost zero.
Now all the high-quality and modern treatment facilities of the Indus Hospital Karachi will be available free of cost at the Indus Hospital Gwadar.
This institute will be the first and only hospital of its kind in Balochistan where the best doctors and paramedical staff of Karachi will be present to serve day and night with modern medical equipment.
It consists of 70 beds while Pak China Friendship Hospital under construction will consist of 150 beds and will be a state-of-the-art and international standard hospital.

Iranian delegation to visit Gwadar for 100 MW power purchase accord

By Yasir Habib Khan | Gwadar Pro Feb 21, 2023

GWADAR, Feb. 21 (Gwadar Pro) - In connection with the supply of 100 MW of electricity from Iran to Gwadar, Iran’s high-level delegation from the power division is reaching Gwadar today to finalize the agreement on selling power to Pakistan.
The delegation will call on officials of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO) and National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) to seal the deal of per unit price of electricity for residential and commercial purposes. Electricity will be available to Gwadar next month.
New infrastructure regarding the installation of a double circuit 132 KV transmission line from Kalatu (Pakistan city near the Pak-Iran border) to Jiwani Grid Station, spanning over 29 kilometers has been put in place under the new project. Around 75 kilometers long double transmission line from Jiwani Grid Station to Gwadar Grid Station has already been laid down years back.
Old power infrastructure is also available from Pak-Iran border near Panjgur to Gwadar, providing around 40-70 MW of electricity, but due to its long distance (around 400 kilometers), diversion from other districts of Makran division, power losses and power outage, Gwadar used to be plunged into darkness frequently for lack of regular and stable power supply.
Zumurd Baloch, a resident of Gwadar City, told Gwadar Pro that the new transmission line from Pak-Iran border Kalatu near Gabd-Remdan to Jiwani and Gwadar will rid locals of long-hour power outage.
Another resident Mohsin Jan, trader in building materials, said that Gwadar business had been languishing in the backdrop of sporadic availability of electricity. The new transmission line will breathe fresh air to local industry and trade.
