The PAF flew six 9 Squadron F-16s to Konya AB, Turkey, to take part in Exercise Anatolian Eagle from September 27-October 8 (2004). The two F-16Bs and four F-16As were all sporting the unit's 'Griffins' nickname on the fin and made history as the first operational PAF fighters to conduct Combined Air Operations (COMAO) with NATO aircraft. The detachment comprised 76 personnel, including 14 pilots, all mainly from the unit's home base at Sargodha.
