What's new

Jinnah class guided missile frigate has entered detailed design phase, after completion of conceptual design phase

After all the technology transfers and decades of financial support from the exchequer, the neutral run enterprises can't locally design and produce a lousy frigate?
Had the neutrals focused on Research and development we could have had a defence industry as good as Turkey. Building those kanal sized homes in DHA is a better investment for them.

And it's not as if we didn't have any ship building capability, Karachi shipyard was building 10K ton displacement ships back in the 70's and 80's. Surely, they could have built upon that to build smaller naval ships and from there graduated onto bigger ships.

and then you will cope and cry about cost overruns and delays because it is too complex of a project to start with.

I will be shocked if PN goes for Atmaca, Harbah in its current form is a missile that is infinitely more capable
Engines and electronics are the keys. The Turkish indigenous turbo-jet engines, coupled with the Super Power beating EW/guidance/imaging etc, are being developed for CMs up to 2K km range. The Pak folks usually avail such opportunities...

Harbah already uses an ARH+IIR seeker alongside TERCOM and DSMAC.

The J-Class is more of a direct continuation of the B-Class. Though the PN calls the B-Class a "corvette," the actual capabilities of the B-Class and J-Class are quite similar (with the latter being heavier and having a few more VLS cells). Ship classifications aside, I suspect the PN will use the B-Class and J-Class interchangeably.
Its called a Corvette to avoid the expensive sounding Frigate designation.

I dont think the Neutrals had anything to do with that. It was that Moron ZA Bhutto who destroyed many industries with mass nationalization. Let credit go where it is due.

I hope they should be designated as air defence frigates with long and medium ranged air defence missile because we lack dedicated air defence frigates we have more multi mission ships but now we need specialized ships against air threats

Jinnah Class Frigate design process has been started to the detail design stage
The Pakistani Navy's design activities for the future frigate class Jinnah are underway. Under the leadership of ASFAT, the main contractor of PN MILGEM, design activities continue in Pakistan. The design activities in question are within the scope of the Offseti of the PN MILGEM project, the statement said. "The Jinnah Class Frigate (JCF) design, the Offset project of the PN MILGEM (Pakistan Milgem) project, continues with the Pakistan Navy Design Office – PDW (Pakistan Design Wing) under the leadership of ASFAT," the statement said. I was told. In addition, it was stated that the detail design process was started, "Offset project; the concept has completed the design phase and the detail is in the design stage." I was told.

PN MILGEM Project:

The Milgem project, designed and developed with domestic and national facilities for the Turkish navy, paid off and ordered these ships for its own navy in Pakistan. In the Milgems ordered by Pakistan, changes were made to the ship design according to the requirements of the Pakistani navy and the PN Milgem project was created.
PN Milgemler also has 2 6-cell surface-to-air guided shell systems, It was announced that systems such as 2 3-launch guided shell systems, 76 mm Main Battery Gun, Torpedo Launch System, Close Air Defense System, 2 25 mm Remote Controlled Stabilized Gun System (STOP), Carinaya Mounted Sonar, Torpedo Mixing / Deception System (TKAS) will be installed.
Ships to be produced within the scope of PN MILGEM project:
  • PNS Mughal
  • PNS Khaibar
  • PNS Badr
  • PNS Tariq
will.

I agree Bhutto destroyed the industrial base of the country, but he had no say in the running of neutral controlled entities, surely HIT, PAC, and KSEW could have run things a bit better and innovated on their own or at least tried to indigenize most of the ship building aspects.

What we lack is ships which have VLS to carry and fire long range land attack cruise missiles. Like 1500 KM and more range cruise missiles

Both HIT and PAC were founded in 71 so there wasnt much to destroy in 71. KSEW was founded in 57 and if you look at its history it has gone backwardssince its inception. Recently it has been revamped but considering its age it is still dependent on designing help and metallurgy. We have no metallurgical base and no money for R&D. As economy of scale does not exist whatever we make is more expensive. However let us watch this space as newer projects are being launched

Yes that's why we need destroyers here to do this kind of operations

ksew did good till the 80's (e.g. MV Islamabad, a modest ship, but could have have worked its way upwards). bhutto, for all his faults, knew the importance of heavy industries (maybe he was inspired by soviet union/commies). but, yes, everything since the latter half of 80s has been a loss. and 90s onwards have been the absolute worst: no R&D, no tech improvement, no indigenization, no development of existing industries etc. etc, up until PTI decided to introduce EV policy, mobile device policy, focus on IT and ASIC design and import substitution.
