DEHRADUN: A Dalit youth was brutally murdered by his in-laws for marrying a girl from the upper caste, on Thursday. Before the brutal murder, the newly married inter-caste couple had sought protection from the police expressing similar apprehensions against their in-laws but the police paid no heed.

Jagdish Chandra, son of Keshram, a resident of Panuvadhokhan and Geeta alias Guddi, a resident of Bhikiyasain got married at Gairad temple on August 21. Before marriage, Guddi had lived with her stepfather Joga Singh and half-brother Govind Singh. Marrying a Dalit did not go well with both of them and together they killed Jagdish.

The deceased Jagdish was the leader of the Uttarakhand Parivartan Party (UPP) and had contested assembly elections twice.

It is alleged that on Thursday, Jagdish's in-laws caught him in Bhikiyasain and forcibly abducted him in a vehicle. Jagdish was then brutally murdered. On information, the police and revenue police team recovered Jagdish's blood-soaked body from the vehicle late in the evening.

UPP central president PC Tiwari has said that Geeta's stepfamily has been the enemy of Jagdish's life ever since it was reported that she was married to a Dalit. Senior Superintendent of Police Pradeep Kumar Rai told The New Indian Express, "The three accused including mother in law of the deceased, Bhavana Devi who committed the murder has been arrested. The weapon used in the murder is yet to be recovered, though police have learnt that Jagdish was killed in an attack carried out with a hammer-like weapon."

The incident has caused a stir in the police administration. An important angle, in this case, is that the couple had pleaded for protection from the police a few days ago, citing a threat to their lives.

In wake of this incident, the administration has deployed additional police force in view of the caste conflict as a precautionary measure.

This is the second case in the last four years. In May 2018, a woman was axed to death by her brothers in the Haridwar district of the state in a suspected case of honour killing. The woman, Preeti had married Om Prakash against her family’s wishes and was staying with him in Dharampur village.

The leaders of this hill state may be trying their level best to make it one of the finest states in the country, but there are still areas in the state that are caught in the shackles of the old conservative ideology. This incident has put a big blot on Almora district, known for its rich cultural heritage and education.

When any Muslim convert to Hinduism, where does he fall into cast system?

It depends on the caste, there are a lot of Muslims who belong to upper-class castes. I for example am a Rajput and a Muslim. Unfortunately, a lot of Pakistani Muslims still discriminate on the basis of caste; however, things are changing for the better. The younger generation doesn't believe in this nonsense. Unlike Indians, Pakistanis will never ever harm one another on the basis of caste. By the way I like my father hate this sh*t so much that I don't even attach my family name with my name.

This question was for Indians, for Indian Muslims. Rajput mean son of Raja which is a title I think not a cast. Although group of Punjabi use them in Pakistan but to be fair, there is a Raja so n so in every other street in pother region now a days.

70-80 percent of the country is backwards, and lives in medieval times.
Takes time to uproot faith.

Rajput is my caste and Rana is my title though I don't use this title outside my village. We are Punjabi Rajput. According to my grandmother, back in Indian Punjab, the way the society worked was that every caste had a set role in society. For example, a Nayi couldn't do anything besides cutting people's hair and providing special services at a wedding, they would be punished if they tried to defy the roles set for them. According to grandma, we were the most powerful in our area in Ludhiana and other castes in our area obeyed us. I am not bragging in fact, I think this sh*t is absolutely ridiculous.

This bullshit was introduced by the British.

That’s why they have names like Baker or Miller.

Back in the day, Nai’s were the ones that would perform surgeries on people before modern medicine. So they had an important skill set beyond just cutting hair.

Very sad . Idiots who have no honour do honour killing .

Also this whole caste system ingrained in Hindus is why they worship white skin and white people. As you can see in the west they try their best to get into relationships with white people so they can have mixed children with white skin.

Other than trolling on here, I don’t really insult other people’s religions, but Hinduism by and large seems like a toxic ideology.

terrifying tbh lol

They had the skill set to set bones and take care of wounds. They weren’t doing triple bypass heart surgeries...
