US Air Force releases video of the future sixth-generation fighter jet, expect these features

The US Air Force on March 22 released a video showcasing the abilities of its conceptual sixth-generation fighter jet, which is also hailed as the Next-Generation Air Dominance or Penetrating Counter Air. In the video we can see the sixth-generation fighter jet, also known as F/X, firing a high energy laser that cuts another fighter in half. The power of the jet is still unclear, however, it is speculated that it will have longer range, larger payload and will be able to switch between a manned and an unmanned aircraft. The fighter is estimated to travel at hypersonic speeds, and can also be loaded with hypersonic weapons.

The US Air Force is yet to decide on who’s going to develop such a highly-specified aircraft, but officials expected its services to likely start around 2030. A statement released by Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) website, read, “In order to defend America, we need your help to innovate smarter and faster…Our warfighters depend on us to keep the fight unfair and we will deliver.”

The statement also added that the AFRL community will hold several events at universities across the US this spring and summer, where it will interact with various scientific communities, higher education and business professionals.

The video released by AFRL also features the Air Force’s “Loyal Wingman” initiative, in which a manned fighter jet can undertake and control a swarm of attack and surveillance drones. The video also contains DARPA’s “Gremlin” program and the Air Force’s Counter-electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project, a missile potential of causing an electronic blackout.

Since 2015, the US Air Force has been suggesting ideas about mounting lasers on planes and jets, such as AC-130s, and F-15s and F-16s. As per a report in the Business Insider, the US government recently awarded a $26.5 million contract to Lockheed Martin for developing lasers for fighter jets.

@Gomig-21

Look at all the tailless, canopy-less PAK FAs.

Hahaha, I saw a bunch of tailless drones controlled by a single F-35 and just like I predicted to you, the next gen will be a manned, but a tailless platform and it looks like laser weaponry will be matured by then. I'm sure drones will evolve quite a bit as well.

The Russians need to field the PAK-FA first before they think of anything beyond that, ma man. I don't think they can skip the 5th generation and get into 6th. They do need to leapfrog in someway to make up for lost time. But every day that goes by, their falling further behind the US which is just tearing it up. For every one of those days they're still not done with testing, another F-35 is rolling out of LM already RAMed up and ready for delivery, and 3 variants to boot. I think I'm forgetting something...oh yeah, there's that other thing too, the Raptor or something. :enjoy:

Everybody's been working on tailless drones that are slaved to manned aircraft. It's been happening for the last 10 years actually.

The Russians are planning this stuff too.

I actually wanted to point out the drone design to you. It looks so similar to a PAK FA without stabilators and fins. The drone is obviously not the definitive design, but you are seeing more and more of the PAK FA's design influencing future aircraft.

The American '6th-gen' is based on the PRAT-FALL? Are you guys that desperate to give the Russians any glimmer of credit?

Yeah but I think the only one we've seen in actual testing is the neEUROn with the Rafale if I'm not mistaken. Don't think the US has shown anything yet, but I'm sure that's coming soon!

I can see a little of the same profile maybe in the first drone @3:12, but one can also say it resembles the YF-23 quite a bit too. Is that the one you're referring to?

BTW, notice the cruise missile @5:11 which looks like the JSOW but is actually not an explosive or kinetic munition, but rather an EMP weapon? Now we're getting into the really scary stuff once they start deploying weapons like that, including lasers.

I love this part lol: "Counter-electronics High Power Microwave Advanced Missile Project, a missile potential of causing an electronic blackout." Euphemism for an EMP weapon LOL!

lol @ PRAT-FALL.

Bring up the actual test until then this animation stands as a joke.

Americans while making animations and dreaming about laser guns to shoot at fighter jets, russia developed its new generation of engines for 6th gen fighters capable of Fyling at outer space.

Ideally, the fighter that flies higher, has the upper hand, being able to shoot at hostile fighters from above. So Americans are still joking around.

first they will complete their 5th, then they think about 6th gen jet, their economy is crippling @mohammad45 and get shot by SM-2,3 patriot and aster-30 @mohammad45 :enjoy:

Yes, and even the russian slaved drones will have this hypersonic outer space engines.

People thought it was a joke about the U.S. new LRASM missile dodging and avoiding radar and not GPS guided, yet its already a reality. And you doubt the U.S.'s ability to develop lasers on aircraft??

No, we all know that the US has the ability for 6th gen fighter ect. But they are not leading as the news articel claims.

If the US is not leading the 'stealth' game, then what are we?

What "stealth game"? If US rage against countries with poor or none radar, then it is "stealth". If the country can build state of the art radar or better, then there is no stealth.
