ISLAMABAD- Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk today ordered KPK government to use biometric system in Peshawar, during the local bodies’ elections.
A three-member bench judge comprising of Justice Gulzar, Justice Mushir Aalam headed by Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk heard the case. During the proceedings, Advocate General KPK Latif Yousaf zai appeared before the court and said that KPK government had decided to withdraw its decision, to use biometric system in the polls to avoid further delay in the elections.
He said the provincial government had expressed its willingness to hold elections by April 2015. The Chief Justice directed the KPK government to hold local bodies’ elections in the beginning of 2015 and biometric system should be ensured in Peshawar district. Meanwhile, CJP Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk expressed dissatisfaction, over the report of Punjab government for its arrangements of delimitation for the LG Polls in the province during the proceedings.
The Chief Justice said delimitation should be carried out only by the Election Commission of Pakistan and the government had to assist it. He directed that constitution should be followed in this connection.
The CJP directed the Punjab government to hold a meeting with the Commission for delimitation in the province and report the court. The Supreme Court today adjourned till Dec 8, its hearing into a case pertaining to local bodies’ elections in Sindh and Punjab
