Tents supply to be completed by end of November: PM

ISLAMABAD, Oct 28 (APP): Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Thursday said the government has imposed a kill on the export of tents and tents are being produced in large numbers, which are constantly being supplied to the people of earthquake affected areas and assured that adequate number of tents to meet the present and future needs of the affected people will be available by the end of next month. Talking to Henry F. Drewfs Jr. Brigadier General of Samaritan's Purse, a US based international relief organization here at Prime Minister House, he said the first phase of rehabilitation of earthquake affected areas is now on an advance stage. He said food and medicines have been provided to a very large number of people.

The Prime Minister said government is now focusing on the reconstruction and rebuilding of affected areas and encouraging the sponsorship offers. Shaukat Aziz said a large number of organizations and individuals have offered to sponsor a school, hospital, family, village etc. The Prime Minister commended the efforts of international community in the relief and rescue phase as well as for providing funds for the rebuilding and reconstruction phase.

"This is a problem of humanity and time to build interfaith harmony and general feeling of sharing shown by world community and the efforts made by the international community show that humanity transcends all borders," he said. The Prime Minister said government will ensure that relief funds are utilized in the most judicious and transparent manner. He said in addition to normal government controls an oversight committee will be set up for additional checks. Mr. Henry F. Drewfs briefed the Prime Minister about the relief work undertaken by his organization. He said his organization will distribute ten thousand tents in the earthquake affected areas. He said during his visit to Balakot and other areas and he was deeply moved by the magnitude of the tragedy.
