Another $7 billion of Qatari investments to flow into Turkey

Qatar's investments in Turkey will continue in the coming period, especially in the banking and real estate sector, said Yousuf Al-Jaida, CEO of the Qatar Financial Centre

Qatar was Turkey's largest foreign investor last year, according to Al-Jaida, who added that the two countries have healthy political relations and that the heads of states share a common strategic perspective on global developments

Qatar's investments in Turkey are estimated to have surpassed $20 billion to date. Turkish investments in Qatar are projected to be worth some $17 billion, and they have increased further during the preparations for the football World Cup in 2022

PUTIN to visit Turkey in January to launch TurkStream pipeline

Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Turkey on Jan. 8 to participate in the launch of the Turkish Stream project

The main subject of this trip is the opening of the Turkish Stream and on this date (Jan. 8) the land section on the Turkish side of this important international project will be completed

TurkStream's first line is intended for gas supplies to the Turkish market
The second will supply gas to south and southeastern Europe. The second line is expected to go from Turkey through Bulgaria, then to Serbia, Hungary, and Slovakia.

TurkStream will have the capacity to transit 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, which is equal to the energy demand of 15 million homes

Turkish Parliament ratifies maritime pact with Libya


The Turkish Parliament ratified a recently signed pact between Turkey and Libya laying out the two countries' maritime boundaries in the Eastern Mediterranean

The memorandum asserts Turkey's rights in the Eastern Mediterranean in the face of unilateral drilling by the Greek Cypriot administration, clarifying that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus also has rights to the resources in the area

Turkey and Libya signed a deal last week after a meeting between Erdoğan and the head of the Presidential Council of Libya's GNA, Fayez Al Sarraj, in Istanbul. The deal enabled Turkey to secure its rights in the Mediterranean while preventing any fait accompli by other regional states

Turkey's automotive industry exports totaled $28.05 billion in the first 11 months of this year

Germany was the top destination for automotive exports in the same period, with over $4 billion, followed by France ($3.13 billion) and Italy ($2.65 billion)

Turkish fund to build $10 billion petchem and refinery facility

Turkish Wealth Fund Management Company will construct a $10 billion refinery and petrochemicals complex in Ceyhan, in Turkey's southeastern Adana province, the Wealth Fund's officials told Anadolu Agency on Dec. 3

The decision to develop the complex marks the fund's first greenfield investment in the energy sector. It is also in line with Turkey's Treasury and Finance Ministry's New Economy Program for 2020-2022 to reduce dependency on energy imports, of which Turkey pays $43 billion on an annual basis

The complex is also purported to help reduce Turkey's current account deficit by $1.5 billion annually by reducing the country's petrochemical imports which reached $13 billion in 2018

Residential property sales to foreigners generate $3 billion in 6 Months of the Year

Turkey brought in $3 billion from residential property sales to foreign buyers between January and June this year

Foreigners purchased some 8,903 properties from their favorite location, Istanbul, in the first half of this year. It was followed by Antalya with 4,093, Ankara with 1,111, Bursa with 1,000, Yalova with 811, Sakarya with 592 and Trabzon with 425


In terms of nationalities, Iraqi citizens maintained their rank as the top buyers among foreigners

Iraqis became owners of some 3,337 houses in the January-June period, followed by Iranians with 2,202 units, Russians with 1,264, Saudis with 1,094 units and Afghans with 987 units

All these figures are actually the most important indicators of the contribution of the real estate sector to the Turkish economy

First indigenous Ventilator to be delivered mid-month


A Turkish firm, supported by some other defense and technology firms, aims to deliver the first batch of domestically produced ventilators mid-April

We introduced the enterprise to some Turkish high technology companies such as Baykar, Aselsan and Turkish Aerospace Industries

Turkish defence and electronics firms are teaming up to produce 5,000 ventilators to help treat coronavirus patients
They will be accelerating production of a ventilator made by Turkish biomedical company Biosys

It is possible to produce this ventilator for $6,500 while an imported equivalent would cost some 20,000 euros

Pumped-storage hydropower Plant in Isparta $1,5 billion


Partnership of Turkish, Chinese and American firms are working on a project to build a 1000-megawatt (MW) pumped-storage hydropower plant in Turkey's Isparta province, in the western Anatolian region

The partnership of these three companies will create an investment of around $1.5 billion in the dam project on Isparta's Eğirdir Lake

GE would provide 4,250-MW dual hydroelectricity turbines and equipment for the plant that is expected to open in January 2022
