SAI forcing CWG cyclists to sign bonds for 'taking care' of imported cycles

NEW DELHI: The Indian cycling team for the Commonwealth Games is threatening to return the imported cycles to the Sports Authority of India, claiming that SAI forced the riders to sign bonds making them "answerable" for any damage caused to the equipment worth crores.

The riders got the cycles, each of which is worth lakhs, just a few days ago and were asked to sign bonds by SAI after that. The Bond apparently states that in case a cycle is lost or damaged while in use, the rider would be held responsible for it.

The cyclists initially refused to sign the bond but were "pressurised" into signing it after some time.
"SAI didn't tell us that we were supposed to sign these bonds while we were being handed those cycles. When we got to know of it, we told them we would not take the cycles if this was the case.

"In case of any damage or if somebody loses his or her cycle then that rider will have to pay for it," a cyclist told PTI-Bhasha on condition of anonymity.

India's cycling coach Kiran Bala conceded that the riders were asked to sign the bonds but said it was routine procedure to ensure that the expensive equipment is handled with care by those who would be using it.

"Yes, they were made to sign bonds but that is just to ensure that they care for these cycles in the same way they care for their personal equipment. It is nothing unusual.

"The cyclists don't have to worry because all the cycles are anyways insured," the coach said.

When contacted, a SAI official justified the move. "These are very expensive cycles. We want to ensure that they return to us in good condition," the official said.

What a bunch of morons

when israel players were killed in munich, germany turned into failed state.when during manchester games, poor facilities were provided, england turned into a failed state.

i m again saying wait till 13 oct n watch.players coming here are appreciating the facilities as best ever.

if water is inside the rooms then delhi faced the floods few days ago.
During ISRO lynching, the police of Munich didn't pee in the venue's wall. During Manchester authority's poor showing, dalit/aschuyt over there didn't make living on cowdung. So don't compare Raj Rani with Bharati Mathorani and ask us to wait more as Bharati morning is showing its Day's type.

Seriously, What right do you Pakistanis have to criticize India about even management? Have you ever done anything before? we learn by making mistakes. We are attempting and learning, of course with a lot of embarrassment. That's how nations develop and mature.

And how many people actually visit your country? I mean not for charity work or reporting . But as a tourist? If at all they do,What do you have to show them? Mutilated women ? Fanatic hooligans? Free drone show? Have you ever conducted anything internationally apart from Islamic conferences or something related to terrorism? The last time I know the SriLankan team was given an AK47 welcome and they never turned back.

Cmmon India ... you can spend billions of dollars to put the nation to shame and you cannot spare a few thousand dollars for the cyclists. :hitwall:

This is silly that they are pressurising the players which could affect their performance and above all how dumb it is NOT to realise that cyclists can have a fall or crash. How can they guarantee that cycles wont even be scratched

:no: This sermon aon Pakistan or against Pakistan still does NOT justify peeing on CWG related designer wall by an Indian paramilitary personal neither the bad conditions of rooms and those .di.rty washrooms

Maybe they want the cyclists to keep their cycles aside and start running on the track by themselves... That ways there won't be any damage to the cycles.

CWG: Charles office says he`ll inaugurate, athletes trickle in

London/New Delhi: The suspense over who will declare the Commonwealth Games open ended with the announcement that Prince Charles will do the honours even as streams of international athletes continued to check in at the Games Village on a relatively controversy-free day for the organisers.

After weeks of scandals, star pullouts and criticism over the state of the Games Village, the hassled organisers heaved a sigh of relief as traditional powerhouses such as Australia, Canada and a second batch of English athletes checked in.

There were also no individual pullouts from the event today.

Confusion grew over who will open the event among Charles and President Pratibha Patil but the Brit Royal`s office Clarence House ended it in the evening by issuing a statement, asserting that the heir-to-the-throne will inaugurate it.

Charles is attending the Games as a representative of Queen Elizabeth II, the ceremonial head of the Commonwealth who will give the event a miss for the first time in 44 years.

"There is no row. Both The Prince of Wales and the President of India will have a prominent role in the opening ceremony in Delhi. The Queen has asked The Prince of Wales to represent her at the opening of the Commonwealth Games.

"We cannot be specific about the choreography but The Prince will read out the Queen`s baton message, ending by declaring the Games open," a statement from the Clarence House read.

Rashtrapati Bhawan refused to comment on the matter but an OC official said India wanted President Patil to open the event.

"As per the CWG protocol, it is the Queen who inaugurates the Games but in her absence, this issue has cropped up. It is true that there is a move to ask the President to inaugurate the Games," the official said.

Earlier, a British tabloid has claimed that President Patil could ultimately inaugurate the event.

However, there were some unsavoury developments on the sidelines of the Games` build-up with the Commonwealth Games Federation and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit locked in a verbal duel.

A day after CGF CEO Mike Hooper`s criticism blaming authorities for the lack of preparations and reportedly blamed traffic snarls in Delhi on India`s vast population, Dikshit hit back at him.

"It is really a very unkind and undiplomatic remark that has been made," Dikshit told reporters here.

However, Hooper received strong backing from CGF boss Mike Fennell, who insisted that the New Zealander neither blamed the Indian government nor made any disparaging comments about India, as was reported in the media.

We cannot justify it. But it is pathetic to find a peeing paramilitary guy to prove your point that we have failed. This is the only way you can feel good about your country.
