Armenia with Russia wants to carve up Georgia and have common border with Russia and access to Black Sea. Armenia want to annex Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia which now have Armenian majority. Soviet Union expelled Meskhetian Turks from Javakhetia region to Central Asia and settled Armenians. Adjara (Ajaria) region had Muslim majority but Russia occupied northern part after Kars Treaty annexed it to Georgia. Now Christian Georgian forms majority. Armenia covets many regions of Georgia that were never parts of ancient Armenian Empire. After occupying parts of Azerbaijan and claiming parts of Turkey, Armenia has revealed it's irredentist plan for Georgia.

“I hope Armenia and Russia will some day have a common border,” Semyen Bagdasarov, a member of the Committee on International Affairs, RF State Duma, stated during the Armenian-Russian Relations spacebridge.

To substantiate his view, he said that Armenia is Russia’s only ally in the region, while Georgia continues its “hostile policy toward national and religious minorities.” “If Georgia continues its policy, why not think of creating an Abkhazia-Poti-Ajaria-Javakheti corridor? The USA would have done it long ago, but we are modest. I think time will put an end to this modesty,” Bagdasarov said.

Oh thats characteristic of Armenians, they always have an irredentist plan for somewhere .. We have a Mount Agri example on the table which they claim it belongs to Armenia, but they also know that all they will be able to do is to watch the mount from their land, with teary eyes.

Armenia is losing its population as it migrates particularly to Russia and also to other parts of the world. While Turkey and Azerbaijan grow strong both demographically and economically. Isolated Armenia is kept strong by Russia, France and USA to keep Turkey and Azerbaijan in check. Azerbaijanis have long distrusted the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's Minsk group, co-chaired by Russia, France, and the United States. All three countries have large Armenian diasporas and are considered to favor Armenians in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Many Azerbaijanis accuse the Minsk group of not putting enough pressure on Armenia to liberate the occupied territories and of prolonging the negotiations indefinitely.

Azerbaijan has raised its defense budget to $3.1 billion next year while Armenia has $385.5 million for its military spending in 2011. On paper Azerbaijan looks strong but in a battlefield superior tactics and strategy wins wars. Azerbaijan lost 17% of its territory to smaller and weaker Armenia in 1994 war. I hope the Azerbaijan armed forces have gained training and they will regain their territory in next war.

Azerbaijan as an oil country have oil fund where already more then 30 billion dollars are collected and more money goes into that fund each year, besides actual military budget, more money can be used from oil fund for military purposes.

Turkey cannot intervene since Russia may retaliate against Turkey and involve NATO. Like Olympic games or university exams, Azerbaijan has to prepare, learn, train and equip itself and be ready to fight its war alone. Turkey can only train and equip Azerbaijan now but cannot intervene once the war starts.

We won't be the first to intervene but if Russia does without being provoked then you can bet Turkey would become involved in the conflict. Russia isn't in a position to pull a Georgia conflict out of this with Turkey around.
