What's new

Turkish Air Defence Programs

@cabatli_53 Master! What happened to the Sapan RAM equivalent project? Is there any development you can inform us about? It seems that the project is advancing quietly.

Bro, I don’t have any new info about Sapan. I am just predicting that Sapan will be a short range self defence naval missile similar to RAM. Hope to see some developments about it as well.

So in a very short time (a couple of months)

We have introduced indigenous AD missiles to our inventory:
- VSHORAD manpads (sungur) (PORSAV project)
- SHORAD AD (Hisar-A) (IRIS-T SLS equivalent)
- Medium AD (Hisar - O) (IRIS-T SLM equivalent)

- long range (Hisar - U under development)

Missiles in development Sea based AD:
- G40 (ESSM equivalent)

AA missiles in development:
- Bozdogan (falcon colubarius) shortrange (AiM-9 equivalent)
- Gokdogan (falcon perigrine) medium range (AIM-120C equivalent)
- Akdogan (falcon rusticolus) (long range?) (I'm guessing here AIM-120D equivalent?)

And than we will have some NASAM's like configurations with AA missiles in AD role

future developments we need:
- AIM-260, Meteor like extended long range missiles with Ramjet

Why wouldn't they just improve on Gokdogan with a dual-pulse rocket motor and Block II it. Instead of giving it a new name.. I believe Akdogan is actually long-range ramjet, they've been working on ramjets for atleast a decade with universities, I have no doubt that the engine is there and now we have the missile - mix it up. Make a Ramjet missile.

cold launch technology which used the same method in Russian S-300 and S-400 air defense systems

SUNGUR doesn't use cold launch. It has a small booster just like stinger (you can even see it in this picture).

As you can read here:
https://www.defenceturkey.com/en/co...defense-system-is-ready-to-enter-service-4105

Dubbed as PORSAV, the National ManPADS is a fully autonomous ‘fire and forget’ missile equipped with a two-stage (booster motor and sustainer motor) solid propellant rocket motor and features Aselsan’s cooled Imaging Infrared (IIR) type seeker head (believed to operate in the three to five-micron waveband).

Guuuuuys this is not a cold launch, a mini launch engine is used at the first level to prevent the user from being damaged, the same is in the stinger and omtas we have produced for years.

Does it matter that it's not a cold launch as long as the result is the same. You swap the used tube out with a new one, and you're ready to go again.

If this is the first version, I hope the next versions can be more compact.
