Meghalaya: Indo-Bangla border villagers seek dismantling of illegal construction by BGB at Dawki

The Border Security Force (BSF) has reportedly stopped an Illegal construction of a border outpost at Dawki in Meghalaya’s West Jaiñtia Hills district by the Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB).

Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui informed on Thursday that he had spoken to the BSF after having informed about the incident and the BSF took swift action to stop the construction of the BGB outpost.

Rymbui had also met a delegation from Darang Elaka and headman of Dawki who aired their concerns over the encroachment by the BGB in the area.

“As per the agreement between the two countries, any activities along the Indo-Bangla border should be 150 yard away from the zero line. I have also told the BSF to be vigilant and ensure such incidents do not occur in other stretches of the border,” Rymbui said.

On the demand of the delegation to dismantle the structure, the minister said that the BSF has been asked to take necessary action.

Stating that the Meghalaya government cannot directly take up the issue with the Bangladesh government, the Home Minister said that this is an international issue, which has to be taken up through the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of External Affairs.

Remaining Jamati remnants of the BDR Pilkhana are going to be reigned in by their friendly premier, not at all a cause for concern.

BSF don't want BGB to set up border outposts and lookout towers in certain areas, because it will put an end to illegal traffic between the two nations.

BSF is actively aiding the so called 'Ghuspetias' for a measly few rupees and looking the other way.

Illegal BD traders and cattle merchants feed BSF with their bribes.

Facilitating illegal trafficking is how the BSF members put food on the table.

In all seriousness, this is a non-issue.

We were constructing a BOP in no man's land and they objected to and obstructed the construction, I don't see the issue here.

Bravo BSF!

150 yards, my friend, precisely that far. And we shall be fine. That was agreed upon, i don't know why someone feels the need to contravene any of that.

Care to tell us how many times BSF has broken that rule?

A case of pot calling kettle black.

You should remember because you lost 16 soldiers back in 2001 for violating that.

BSF guards our part of the border, and AFAIK we don't construct anything illegally.

We are well within our rights to engage with the armed smugglers coming to our country from your side, so are you too.

We know that your govt means well, so it's incumbent on them to rein in the unruly elements of your BGB who take bribes to facilitate the illegal movement of your citizens.

Please ask your reared Jamatis to respect the agreed upon agreements. Or else they will start the r-rona afterwards.

if anything Indians have time and time again proceeded to construct on zero point which is illegal according to international laws... if anything, the construction here is atleast 200m within bd and BSF with its usual big schlong tactics came here for mastani
Don’t blame us if another of your soldiers are killed headshot because of the unauthorized border crossings

Don't speak foolishly without knowing the facts, zero point fencing on the border has been done in some places with the understanding and mutual cooperation of both the parties of India and Bangladesh.

The article makes it very clear that it was within the zone of 150 yards where no construction of Border Posts are allowed according to an agreed upon convention. Your country is the one involved in the illegal construction.

Anyway, you needn't care much for it sitting in your goraland, existing mechanisms will take care of it.

If it were brick structure then sure BGB broke the treaty... but it is unlikely as BGB is not BSF and the villagers are probably cow smuggler who did not like the makeshift watch tower for their inconvenience.

Lol, the tribal villagers are not cow smugglers, OTOH they are fed up of their cattles being stolen by the Bangladeshis. Do keep in mind that the natives of Meghalaya do like their beef, and i know it for a fact that they have had to face artificial scarcity for the past few years or so owing to their cattles being stolen by the Bangladeshi robbers and smugglers, making the prices skyrocket somewhat.

Hence, their persistent demand for increasing vigil across the border.

Do not please derail the thread. Issue is here not only Meghalaya but a large part of Assam wants to get benefited by joining Bangladesh. In fact, the Union of India has become a dis-Union many decades ago.

It is time to dismantle it. Then, of course I would like to see Chinese-Assamese like you to move to Arunachal and Assam becomes a part of BD.

I’m. To talking about border fencing but watchtowers and buildings.
And as for article by Indian media, get an independent source that can be verified... not one that claims to shoot down Pakistani fighter jets or kill 40 Chinese

We can exchange the cows for plenty of insects and dogs. It's a win-win situation.

These superstitious Indians starve the old cows to a painful death but would not allow its consumption by non-Hindus. These idiots are living in the age of Maha Bharata when Hindu spaceships regularly traveled through the Space with worshiping Thakurs on board.

Indian Hindus still live in their fantasy make-believe world of which @Axomiya_lora is a part.
