Developments and Turkish operations in Libya

US says Europe not doing enough to stop Libya fighting

European nations are not doing enough to check Russian and allied activities in Libya, the U.S.'s senior diplomat for the Middle East said on July 16.

Addressing the German Marshall Fund during a virtual discussion, David Schenker said while European capitals are "proud" of their efforts to enforce a U.N. arms blockade on the North African country they have been limited to stopping shipments from Turkey.

“The only interdictions that they are doing is of Turkish military material that they’re sending to Libya. Nobody is interdicting Russian aircraft, nobody is interdicting Emirati aircraft, nobody is interdicting the Egyptians,” Schenker said of European nations, according to Reuters.

“They could at least, if they were serious, I think, call them out - call out all parties of the conflict when they violate the arms embargo,” he added.

Libya has been mired in strife since NATO-led operations led to the overthrow of former strongman Muammar Gadaffi in 2011.

The country's new government was founded four years later in 2015 under a U.N.-led agreement, but efforts for a long-term political settlement have so far failed due to a military offensive by renegade general Khalifa Haftar’s forces.

Since April 2019, Haftar's forces have launched attacks on the Libyan capital of Tripoli and other parts of northwestern Libya, resulting in more than 1,000 deaths, including civilians. Haftar has the support of the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Russia while the UN-recognized government is backed by Turkey.

The Libyan government has recently achieved significant victories against Haftar, pushing his forces out of Tripoli and the strategic city of Tarhuna.

U.S. Africa Command said this week it believes the Wagner Group, a Russian private military firm, has deployed some 2,000 personnel to Libya to bolster Haftar.

Schenker reportedly said that among the myriad things Europe could be doing to end the conflict in Libya is sanctioning the Wagner Group, warning "If they aren’t going to take out a more robust role, then this thing is going to drag on."

It saddens me as it does with most Arab and Muslims to witness what is supposed to be a brotherly nation; namely Turkey following the footsteps of Iranian regime in the region. Nobody wants to see any kind of fighting with Turkey but, unfortunately, Turkey under the leadership of Erdogan is determined to make such a great country the laughing stock of the Meddle East, exactly like what happened to Iran where it it supposed to be a role model in the ME.

Erdogan has been emptily yelling, shouting and threatening countries left and right until nobody is taking Turkey seriously nowadays. On the other hand, Sissi had never threatened anybody and even chose to ignore Turkish verbal harassment since 2013; nevertheless, as soon as he felt that Turkey started to pose a real threat he threw a single warning not to cross Sirte- Jufra red line, and indeed, that line has been crossed and whoever crosses will be destroyed. Moreover, Turkish air defense systems were destroyed and Erdogan acted as if he didn't know who did it.

Why does he put himself and his country in such ludicrous situations?

I'd suggest you stop reading Arab News.

I'd suggest you stop reading Arab News.
I am not the kind of guy who believes everything he hears or reads. I have been following the development of events in Libya since they started in 2011 from multiple sources. That being said, I hope you're not suggesting getting the news from Turkish sources which have become replicas to the Iranians'.

Obviously you are. You've managed to get everything wrong about ME and the contemporary struggles.

Wow there is so many things wrong with this post, I don’t even know where to start.

That is Erdogans mistake, and his personality. his rise and his fall. But make no mistake Turkey's interests in Libya is not similar to the wests.

We're there to ensure Libyas freedom and our own freedom. Libya willl grow and become better than Egypt. The mass graves that has already appeared in the freed area speaks for itself. What we'll find in Sirte and beyond is not going to be good.

We'll definitely be rewarded for our staunch support in form of construction contracts and preferential treatment and such. Which shouldn't surprise anyone.

But did you ever as a jordanian research which arab countries revolted against the Ottoman (I am not questioning whether it's right or wrong, the ottomans were warned many times by young Mustafa Kemal Atatürk about what was going to happen, but the ottomans could no longer stop the fall), and these arab countries were treated afterwards ?

Colonialism, Saudi, Jordan and other arabs did not get raped, but NA was. And you had your big 6 days war...

Erdogan should not have stuck his neck out for those arabs because that would have been the smart thing to do. But his educational level is low, so he had to learn the hard way how politics works on global stage.

Egypt is very far from central libya too
Eastern Libya is closer to Turkey than Western Libya to Egypt
Not to mention aerial tankers which Egypt lacks while Turkey has 7
Awacs are another game changing option
So far only Egypt talks about open intervention they will need heavy backing by others otherwise they can’t do much alone
Saudi Arabia and the UAE can assist Egypt in that regard. However, Egyptian F-16, Mirage-2000 and Rafale reach the far West of Libya without refueling.

As a matter of fact much worse, what proof do you have for that? Taking advantage of GNA weakness and desperate need for help, Turkey has received billions of dollars in remunerations, profitable investments, illegal demarcation naval borders, not to mention blackmailing Europe with terrorism and human trafficking.

LNA officially called for international investigations, Hafter is no angel nonetheless. Egypt has witnessed the greatest development era in its modern history in which mega projects have been accomplished in the last 7 years (google them).

As a result of Ottoman rule we were left at the bottom of nations, poor, helpless and weak and we had to face the consequences afterwards because of that stagnant and dark era in our history. We are much better off now.

Every countries has its ups and downs, including Turkey. Indeed Turkey should mind its own business because it is following the path of revolutionary Iran.

There's a post regarding this topic in the middle east, you can go and masturbate over there. This thread is factual @BLACKEAGLE it's not for you to mindlessly blabber shit from the wrong hole.

Your effort to find an excuse for why Arabs tend to fail won't change the basic known facts. You guys literally swim in the petro-dollars and have everything (except hardworking) to become an industrial hub. But you choose to lye your fatty arse on the ground and buy/hire others to do the things for you. As a result, Arab countries became cows to milk, puppets to play. No offence buddy but this is the truth.

Problem with your bunch (arabs) they only want white nations making bases and exploiting the natural resources of their country. Those same white nations have no problems with dictatorships and brutal regimes.
But now Turkey is a dictatorship trying to kill arabs and take their land and oil? This is serious delusion and is made for the consumption of people like you, to blind you from the reality of the Arab world. I don't see many Arabs being vocal about the Palestinian issue right now. Also I see you are all back in bed with Assad and his allies Iran. This is fukkin shameful. The Arabs have become a laughing stock of the Muslim world while every other Muslim is trying to preserve their dignity.

It's not like Turkey is a first class industrial country either. Anyway off-topic.
