I'm quite happy if India does attend. I see no reason not to honour a man who advocates the right to freedom of speech. Let me ask you a question, if it was Arundathi Roy getting the nobel peace prize, what would your opinion be assuming India was behaving like China?

my bet is they wont be going or maybe they don't even have embassy in olso so they are not invited--that solves the problem :victory:

it's quite interesting how singapore will decide. i googled and found singapore does have embassy in oslo. i'm willing to bet singapore wont be going either.

vietnam and philippine are member of ASEAN and they have decided not going.

so far seems to me no country in asia except japan and sk have decided to go. has india offically made the decision yet?

btw, thanks for SriLanka for the great support. Chinese will remember that for sure and for a long time.

44 nation's r ready to attend the function, and yes i think India is officially in the list, while 2 members had still not responded,do u have any idea who r the 2 members

"SriLanka boycotts Nobel Peace Prize, supports dictatorship over democracy, too scared of its dad,China"

:no::no: why you are on fire over decision of an independent country ?

secondly if Sri Lankan say the same that Now India is too scared of new "dad" US thats why you took U-turn on Iran on many occasions recently then how would you feel?

You being an Indian surely would be happy everyone attending the function against China simple as that.

But the problem is that what you see the Sri Lankan govt doesnt see and doesnt agree with what Indians want. So just coming hard on Sri Lanka not siding with Indian view.

Now i would rebound your own point. If tomorrow nobel peace prize is given to Arundhati tomorrow for her support to Maoists and Kashmiris would Indian government not behave like China ?

I am dead sure you all will be arms in hands against everyone who is attending it.

The bottom line is that India will attend because you have many grudges against China and you have the right.

Similarly those who are not attending they have many interests with China so they will act accordingly.

Playing fake morality card here is hypocrite

WILL MAKE ‘MAXIMUM EFFORT TO FULFILL SRI LANKA’S NEEDS’ - CHINA

Sri Lanka, having rid itself of terrorism and embarked on the course of accelerated economic development with determination, should receive the support of the international community in achieving its objectives, China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi has told Sri Lankan Minister of External Affairs Prof. G.L. Peiris in Beijing.

He added that China, for her part, would make the maximum effort to fulfill Sri Lanka’s needs as the country addresses itself to the task of attempting to use its natural strengths to improve the lives of its citizens, with the dawn of peace and stability.

Countries big and small have their own problems, and it is important to remember that solutions have to be found to suit the circumstances of each situation in keeping with the wishes of the country in question without hectoring or pressure from outside, he said.

Prof. Peiris informed China’s Foreign Minister that the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa had held its first public sitting on the previous day and commenced its work. It is of the utmost importance that the Commission should receive every encouragement from the international community to begin and continue its work, Minister Peiris observed.

Thanking Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi for China’s generous assistance with regard to infrastructure development in Sri Lanka, Minister Peiris said that Sri Lanka was proud of her achievement in securing a growth rate of 7% in respect of her economy. President Mahinda Rajapaksa considered it even more important to ensure that the benefits of this development should be enjoyed equitably throughout the Island, especially in the rural sector, the Minister added.

From this perspective, Sri Lanka particularly appreciates China’s role in contributing massively to the development of ports and harbours, highways and other infrastructure facilities in regions of the Island which had hitherto been relatively neglected, Prof. Peiris said.

In an address delivered to the China Institute of International Studies, which was attended by leading members of the diplomatic community and representatives of local as well as international media in Beijing, Prof. Peiris explained Sri Lanka’s experience in defeating terrorism and putting the country on the fast track of economic development and national reconciliation.

The Minister also addressed a largely attended Investment Forum at the Shangri-La Kerry Centre in Beijing for leading entrepreneurs of China, co-hosted by the Embassy of Sri Lanka and the China Chamber of Commerce for Export & Import of Machinery and Electronics.

India is not asking for things from papa US like a "son". It is some other country which behaves like a naughty son of US, wanting chocolates to so homework.

As far as Iran is concerned, I think as you have said, "several" explains the fact that we are independent in foreign policy.
