Bangladesh is negotiating with China on F-10 aircraft procurement

According to the Russian military news network reported on December 1, 2010, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh said in her speech before the Army at a ceremony that the government would purchase a large number of various types of weapons and equipments for the protection of its exclusive economic zone, and to participate in UN peacekeeping action.

China has been a major arms supplier to Bangladesh. Bangladesh procures most of the weapons in the favorable financial conditions and receives military assistance from China within an easy framework of supply.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced that the government is drafting a large number of weapons and equipment import contract, plans to purchase modern tanks, artillery, air defense missile systems, fighter aircraft and helicopters.

British " Defence Industry" magazine reported that Bangladesh had purchased 140 armored personnel carriers, have all been received and the armed forces.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the Government of Bangladesh will also increase the cost of training military personnel, while Cox's Bazar improve air base infrastructure, strengthening patrolling the waters of the Bay of Bengal. It will also set up the 37 anti-aircraft regiment in Cox's Bazaar.

Now the leadership of Bangladesh attaches great importance to non-traditional security threats, including piracy, natural disasters and the Bay of Bengal waters, increasing competition for energy. In addition, Bangladesh, Myanmar and India are locked in territorial disputes on the ownership of oil and gas resources in the their continental shelf.

Bangladesh, in 2008, sent 6 vessels including two warships to the disputed territory, where Myammar was exploiting for oil and gas violating the exclusive economic zone of Bangladesh. The territory contains a large quantity of oil and gas resources, and both the countries insisted that the territory belongs to it.

Because the Bangladesh military budget is only 1.5 billion dollars, therefore, Baoji, Shaanxi Province in recent years in China, Special Purpose Vehicle Co., Ltd. located in Baoji of Shaanxi Province has been providing credit to Bangladesh in recent years. Within this framework, Bangladesh has received 4x4 wheeled ZFB05 armored personnel carriers.

At the end of 2009 the company announced that it is negotiating with Bangladesh to supply a new batch of equipment. Chengdu Aircraft Industrial Group in 2007 has also supplied to Bangladesh 12 F-7BG and 4 FT-7BG two-seater fighters.

Currently negotiations are going on to supply Bangladesh Air Force JF-17 and the more modern F -10 fighters. According to unofficial information, Bangladesh Navy has received from China two "Jiang Wei" class Ⅱ type (053H3) of frigates.

Bangladesh had purchased three British naval vessels on active service, including a hydrological observation vessels and two offshore patrol vessels. In addition, the Bangladesh Navy and the Italian Augusta Westland have signed a two AW-109 light twin helicopter purchase agreement.

Its a good thing bangladesh is replacing its old military hardware. However, we should also get some western firepower(air) as well even though they may be a little bit expensive, as it will enable us to be more adaptable to the different weapons.

The F-10 is not available for the export market at the moment. Might be available in 5-6 years at least.

I believe that the F-16 suits BAF requirements well. Costs around $40 million each. Better to pay more for something of value than paying for something that can't deliver many results, especially when it comes to countering aircraft from neighboring countries. Can't just hop onto an F-7 and expect to go toe-to-toe against SU-30s or something like that.

I have also come to think that judging from the current scenario for Bangladesh's defense, it would be more feasible to work on an integrated air-defense network. Thinking about something similar to NORAD.

It would be nice to start from somewhere. Especially since Bangladesh is a small country, I don't think it would be impossible.

What do those two women understand about defense? LMAO

If Bangladesh buys Jf-17 , we cannot have the chance to rule out Indians evaluating those aircraft i mean through friendly military exercises etc...
The best options of BAF are Jf-17 and Tejas Mk1 as they are only cheapest and some what best fighters at that cost.

25 million dollars. U can get a squadron for $1 billion. I agree JF-17 is much cheaper $15million but we know its qualities are also cheap.
Dont just reply . I can show u proof of Tejas Mk1 with external pods , firing missiles etc.
Reply me by showing such a video for Jf-17.
I recommend JF-17 as trainer for bangladesh and Tejas for Multirole aircraft.
Tejas is useful for interception, strike attacks and it lacks air superiority against Typhoons , Mki's and F-22's. Not a best multi role fighter.
Jf-17 is best multi role
1.Useful for training
2.It supports learning for beginners and experts
3.It can used as target for missiles
4.It can be used for practicing interception
5.It can be shown as threat by numerical superiority
6.It can be used for testing ejection seats at high altitudes
7.It can be sold to poor countries
8.Its the worlds best 4-- gen aircraft
9.Its maitainance is low, no spares problem
10. And the most best part of Jf-17 is it makes u confident that it can effectively counter mki's.

Its only reply for pwfi

Yup all are on ground...
No flying pics and videos???
In 1st and 2nd pics it seems that engine intakes are close and in third one they are not assembled. Any problem?
Leave it friend i personally like Jf-17 but i gave a reply only for the one who commented that tejas is cheap...pwfi

hell you could say that about all 4th gen right? ^^^^

JF-17 is still young and so far only the medium/low tech first block has been made.
So just wait for stealthy features, higher capacity data link, AESA, built in IRST, WS-13.

so JFT is cost effective so far, not cheap.
it is a good 4th gen platform with room for improvement and it's cost effective.

I would hate for it to be more then $15 mill at this stage

We will not buy any western aircraft . neither we have that money nor infrastructure to operate. . .so talking about f16, mirage, gripen is waste of time. Previously BAF decided to replace existing a-5. But a new committee changed that decision. .decided to spend that money on air defence system. . .So i think we are not getting any new aircraft soon except those xtra f-7bg

Guys, how about the Mirage 2000?

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/2e/Mirage2000-5F_1-2_Cigognes.jpg

Heard that it costs around $23 million each.

Is it just me, or does it really share striking resemblances to the JF-17?

$23 million at that time is huge. Now upgrades only cost more than $45 mln.
Even mki costed around $40million but for the recent order we paid $102 mln for each aircraft. Even Tejas costs $31 mln now.
Mirage is a proven strike aircraft and Jf-17 is a young one yet to be developed fully and to be proved.

Our military people know very well what its needs are to off guard its enemies. They know how to guard their country from sudden onslaught by an enemy.

It is purchasing aircrafts, tanks, APCs, frigates, patrol boats and many others in order to satisfy its needs. All the military sources say the following about Bangladesh Airforce's purchasing of fighter planes.

1) BD airforce wants to purchase a few squadrons of J-10 from China after a few years when the latter produces enough quantity that can justify exports.
2) However, for the interim period, BD has already ordered to buy two squadrons of F-7BG.
3) When BD buys J-10s it will retire its stock of A-5s.
4) BD is continuously purchasing defence missile systems from different sources. However, there remains one issue that has to be resolved. Who is to control this land-based missile systems, Army or Airforce?

I have my personal endorsement to the setting up of missile systems throughout the country, some of which are mounted on mobile trucks, to defend our vital assets. 1st priority should be given to mobilization of missiles and the 2nd to the purchase of expensive fighter planes.

I would have to say, our engineers are doing a fine job in taking care of the APCs and updating them :D

Who controls air-defense? It depends on the military's organization. Usually, man-portable SAMs and self propelled AA platforms are handled by the army.

Even though air force can take care of airborne threats with air-to-air missiles, they still need to defend their aircraft from enemy air attack since they are always very valuable targets for the enemy.

Some countries do not even have a dedicated air-defense force. The USA for example designates that responsibility to their air force. Their strategic air-defense is domain of their air force, even if their missiles are launched from fixed installations. This approach is better rather than having a dedicated air-defense wing.

And since Bangladesh has many densely populated areas, it is important to protect areas of high populations. Area defense is opposed to point defense. That is, they focus on an entire area. Area defense systems have medium to long range capabilities, and can be made up of various other systems and networked into an area defence system. This is where many short range systems are combined to effectively cover an entire area. This system can not only bring down enemy aircraft, but also cruise missiles.

This approach of area defense was very effective during the Gulf War. The MIM-104 Patriot was used for the area defenses of Israel and Saudi Arabia against Saddam's SCUD missiles. There are other similar systems available.

Area defense is very important.
