Indian Fighter Competition Nears Finals...

both rafael/ef-2000 are the best
but are they available before 2018 which is i think tough target
next 10 years of iaf are really difficult due to shortage of jets and regional pressure

They will be manufactured and assembled in India, mate. Only the first 20 or so are being bought off the shelf. Both France and Germany have big enough assembly lines to make 20 jets in next 2 years and give us straight.

So either winning would not have any issue on us getting the jets since they're going to be made here (Here means in Bangalore not Gangtok :P).

Well, you are sort of right. Which is why the LCA, Mirage upgrade and Bison upgrades are extremely important in the interim.

YEah..the first 20 jets seem to be easy as compared to the rest.I hope HAL bucks up and puts together an efficient assembly line. BTW I think Gangtok would've been a good option as well to build a new HAL plant. Hardworking people plus away from the limelight or prying eyes unlike Bangalore (I saw them flying Dhruv and another smaller heli last night around HAL. How difficult would it be for spies to document this?)

MMRCA competition stipulates that first squadron must be delivered 36 months from signing of contract so if it is signed this year first SQD by 2014 or next year then by 2015 with the remaining being built by HAL in a period of 4-6 years.

The problem is, here there is not so much talent in aeronautical engineering. Aeronautics in India is still in its infancy and especially here. Gangtok is more famous for its small business economy, educational institutions and well of course, TOURISTS! But aeronautics isn't a forte of people here. It needs to be built up.

Besides, Sikkim is a bordering state to the Dragon. The last thing you'd want is a bordering state to have a weapons manufacturing plant especially during war time. Central, and northern India would be better options since South is already jam-packed with technological hubs.

Still it has beated Blk 52, correct??

In what sense you think it has beaten f-16 block 52+ is the question to be asked. If you say that it was one on one b/w these two fighters to know there capabilities than sorry it wasn't the case . It remains to be seen whether Rafale really outclassed f-16 in the competition or was it just a political decision or a safety measure? How can you be so sure that F-16 was beaten up by Rafale in MRCA with respect to its mission capabilities and not by some political decision or safety measure ? Nothing has been made public except from the fact that EF and Rafale are the final 2 contenders

We all know aircrafts are not bought just on the basis of how they performed against eachother rather many other variable are included in there selection , we all know historically india never bought any fighter jets from US and nor they have trust in US when it comes to fighter jets on the other hand they had bought aircrafts from French and British origin and both are time tested , also in case of Rafale the infra structure is there because india is already operating mirage-2000 and Rafale shares some similarities. So that might have been also the factors rather than one on one beating thing

The areas which F-16 underperformed was communicated to LM, the manufacturer. It is not for public, and IAF nor MoD needs to give explanation for F-16 savvy ppl. You guys are very reluctant to acknowledge that we really 'tested' for years before coming up with conclusion. I know even some ppl still think that India will select US jets as MMRCA.

And there were no fight between F-16 vs Rafale. It did not fly against each other in the competition, rather evaluate the performances in our difficult conditions

And regarding history of US planes, US never offered us F-16 or F-15s earlier.

Boss, I dont want to argue with you a lot coz you will not understand what is known as "Technical specification" which was teh reason for LMs rejection of MRCA. But If you consider just spec by spec youwill find its not near Rafale or EFT, please do it yourself.

and it was no political reason, politics was never in the picture...

Dude i understand what you are saying , n i never contradicted with the fact that on technical specification it might be short of what Rafale and EF holds , but what i wanted to convey is that it is not necessary that it could be the only reason rather many other variables would also have been attached to it which stimulated the decision.

for 189 fighter value $20 billion.............with TOT .......french are kids or fake news.....

what is with you guys and Rafale? Eurofighter might be more expensive but its stealthier and is technically better compared to Rafale, besides anyone shed some light on what kind of AESA radar will be put on the 2 fighters? if there are just prototype radars we should opt for Israeli El/M-2052 AESA radar

when will this drama end?
i was in diapers when i first hard about this fighter jet buying program.
now i am a father and its still not finished.
looks like by the time india will buy the planes they will already be old technology.......and i will be a grand father.

Just saw gangtok in wikipedia & utbe . Noticed that the pop. density is low . Btw the mg marg was stunning . Didnt knew we had such a lovely tourist destination

Eurofighter is the best choice it is stealthier and much more capable than the Rafale besides EFT being technologically more capable it can help out our aerospace industry unless the people at HAL get "screw driver technology" and just copy from the blue prints ^________^ this is why ADA HAL and NAL need to be merged into 1 giant aerospace company but gov't wrapped in red tape and paper pushing bureaucrats will take 5 years to hear that motion
