Bhagavad Gita faces 'extremist' branding, ban in Russia

Lets face it ..It's nothing with the extremist components.

The Orthodox church is 'uncomfortable' with the ISKON activities and this is just a pretext.

The problem with these people is they take the Shrimad Gita literally as a book that preaches war. Can't fault them though for that coz that is how they approach their holy book too.

Somebody needs to drill inside their heads Shrimad Gita is not to be taken literally but rather metaphorically. The war in Shrimad Gita is not about war itself but the inner war between one's good and evil side.

Anyway I could not care less for this. We have 1 billion people who respect. Some foreigners who could not get the message does not reduce anything from what is arguably the greatest philosophical treatise available to mankind.

Too bad, here we have an on going case on the basis of some "Extremist comments" by ISKON founder but nobody has information on what those comments are?

Russian foreign ministry, by issuing vague statements like in the article you posted above, appears to be trying to obfuscate the whole affair. Why not make those comments public? Lot's of people are keen to know what this trial is all about. We are absolutely ready to hear any kind of criticism and open for a constructive discussion on the topic..

The reason, why it's important to us, is because if there is any translation error or any misinformation being spread in the translated version then that warrants an action to amend worldwide spread ISKON "Bhagwat Gita" version. If they are wrong, they can not be allowed to spread lies around..

I dont like ISKON people much gora or otherwise.
Once a Iskon lady in london mock-cursed me with "yama will punish you" in a london street, when I refused to buy her book.
I did not understand initially because of her accent, could not stop laughing afterwards.

Also, like many hindus are uncomfortable with idea of conversion, if you like hinduism so much(or some ideas), just use it, like so many other ideas from other places(like china or japan).
You dont have to buy into the whole idea, and change your own self.

Russian court rejects 'ban Gita' plea

New Delhi: A court in Siberia on Wednesday rejected the state prosecutor's plea for banning the Hindu holy text the Bhagavad Gita in Russia, according to information received in New Delhi.

India had conveyed to Russia its concerns over the "sensitive" issue of a Siberian court hearing a petition seeking a ban on the Bhagavad Gita and asked it to help resolve the matter.

Ahead of the court hearing in Tomsk city, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna called Russian Ambassador to India Alexander Kadakin and told him that the Russian Government should provide all possible help to resolve the issue.

During the meeting, Kadakin assured Krishna that the Russian Government will do all it can within its powers. "The External Affairs Minister conveyed the concerns of the Parliament of India and the people of India on the issue. The Russian side has been saying that it is a judicial process and that it will take all steps it can within its power (to resolve the issue)," the sources said.

As much as I don't agree with Hindu teachings, it is wrong to ban a holy book for people.

I like freedom of speech. Not banning books, whether it is Gita, or Quran or satanic verses.
Individuals can burn or do whatever they want if they disagree.

Why would Indian state engage Russia on this.. ??
