Actually,many pockets in the Andaman are protected as they contain "Indigenous populations" and the right to entry is restricted only to certain people.

Obviously the policeman who took the tourists their, did not live up to that lofty ideal.

Isolated in the sense of being on an island - in the middle of an ocean, and not being able to protect themselves against people willing to exploit them.

Andaman Islands just like India were part of the British colonies however when India got its independence from its British rulers, Andaman Islands were attached to India just like Rodrigues Island was attached to Mauritius when the latter became independent from Britain.
