Indian journo dares to call Bangladesh a ''buffer state''-Local newsmen taken aback

Bangladesh no 'buffer state': Ashraf
Tue, Feb 10th, 2009 10:56 pm BdST

Dhaka, Feb 10 (bdnews24.com) - Awami League spokesman Syed Ashraful Islam termed "unrealistic and ridiculous" an Indian journalist's comment that Pakistan was using Bangladesh as a 'buffer state' to export terrorists to India.

In a Bangladesh-India joint press conference on Monday, reporter Jayonto Ghoshal of the Indian Bangla-language 'Anandabazar Patrika', saying Pakistan was using Bangladesh as a buffer state to carry out anti-Indian activities, asked for foreign minister Dipu Moni's comment.

Dipu Moni refused to reply at the time.

Ashraful, replying to a query after an AL working committee meeting, said on Tuesday: "How can Bangladesh be a buffer state? Bangladesh was born through the Liberation War with Pakistan."

"This is ridiculous and unrealistic."

"How can Bangladesh be a buffer state?" Ashraf asked again. "We don't believe in that."

"We've earned our freedom through a liberation struggle, not through someone's charity. And we'll protect our independence and sovereignty," said the AL leader and cabinet minister.

It is within her job description to reply to such insults. Silence indicates acceptance of the allegation that Bangladesh is a buffer state. Only a prompt verbal response would have indicated rejection and repudiation of the insult.

A journalist comment was refuted by other journalists and thats how it suppose to be. FM needs to maintain her rank and file and so she did... She does not need to comment on these issue which comes out from an unknown foreign reporter...

Look east? Burma?

:rofl::rofl:
BNP totally messed up with this popular word look east policy. Look east mean... Look japan, korea, taiwan, singapore, malayasia.. Instead of looking high they looked at rengoon becuase their eyesight were all too short to see far... :enjoy:

Does the flag look Burmese to you?"look East" implies China.

Look east was not meant for China. China has a special status in our geo political relationship and it remain as is, regardless of whoever political party in power...

But you have to admit BNP buys more Chinese "Hardware" for BDmilitary than AL,who tend to fall for Russian things.

Not entirely China, but China was their main objective off course.Remember how Taiwanis Trade centre was stopped after Chinese objection.

The hardwares they bought from Russia is not offered by China. Basically currently China does not have a alternative for Mig-29. All the countries including Myanmar who are dependent on china, go for other alternatives for air superiority fighters.

J-11 is a copy of Su-27 and sukhois are better than migs definitely.China has everything in its stock. Thanks to some brilliant reverse engineering.

The 16 F-7BG BNP bought, before that there were talks about getting sophisticated fighters but turned out to be "poor man's F-16".Which are good but not good enough.BNP had more closer relations with China than AL did.

YOu may be right. China is ireplaceable. But still BD should not put all its egg in the same basket. Also as the country matures, it needs to liasion with other countries as well. US and India has a keen interest in BD affairs who are enemies of China. BD needs to play its ball right and not to align with only china too much and loose opportunities in other front. I belive BD should strenthen relationship with China more and opens up avenues for others as well. That is exactly what India is doing now, they opened themselves up for USA keeping the existing Russian relationship.

Yeah you are right..maintain good relation with all but keep a long term ally with you, that's off course :china:.

I have a general question. What kind of F*** up name is Dipu Moni? Is she Muslim by any chance? To me she doesn't look, act or talk like a Muslim. Do we ran out of qualified people in BD that we have to chose some one without any International relation(specially with Muslim worlds) experience? This is not a intern position rather full time job that required prier experience. We are screwed and taking a nose dive to non existence...............

She is Hindu and she has very good relation with indian PM Manmohan Singh . She is a doctor and her relations with Indian politicians is a major headache for the people, policymakers and security agencies. She is a prime agent of India for sure. But she will be taken care of by the people of Bangladesh so that she works for BD.

Only people without self respect, dignity and confidence will stand by when someone, be that a journalist or PM of another country, hurl insult to one's own country. Even worse when someone try to come up with excuse to defend such dispicable silence.

Our nation has caught between NEO rajakars who are ready to sell Bangladesh independence and sovereignty today and those who are accused from 38 years ago. And this board is not free from these NEO rajakars who are ready to sell self respect and dignity and working to find excuse for indian insult.

And Leon thanks for making way for indians to derail the thread, good going.
