China's first aircraft carrier has entered into service, the Defence Ministry says.(BBC)

The 300m (990ft) Liaoning - named after the province where it was refitted - is a refurbished Soviet ship purchased from Ukraine.

For now the carrier has no operational aircraft and will be used for training.

But China says the vessel, which has undergone extensive sea trials, will increase its capacity to defend state interests.

So the Chinese drag a scrapped carrier out of the decommissioned soviet rubbish heap, polish it up, throw it into service with no aircraft on it, and trumpet it in front of Japan as a show of force?

Only an american can say something as idiotic as this

Your *** is burning baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

That's a new name! What happened to Shi Lang? :what:

The Reds and we face opposite dilemmas vis a vis aircraft carriers today:

We have the jets but the carrier is not here.

They have the carrier and their jets are being flight tested now.

Guess we complement each other as neighbors. :D

 Keep deluding yourself. J-15 are not there until one day they are.

You mean they appear instantly? Nice.

But what happened to Shi Lang?
 Only to those with inferiority complex they appear instantly!

Inferiority complex can't decide if the Liaoning is a casino or a training ship

The name Shi lang was nothing more than just a internet rumor that got out of hand. And for many years it was considered as the real name.

Do we need a new thread every time there is anew development ? Why can't we have a single thread for the Liaoning and perhabs also one single thread for the Vikramaditya where all the news can be posted there.

A bit like America manipulate some interest rate and print some money and call you're self the world strongest economy.

You have absolutely no knowledge and Historical Information.

Project to develop AC later named Varyag was launched in 1988 to be developed. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the ownership rights were transferred to Ukraine. The construction had ceased by 1992 due to funding problems. The unfinished vessel sat in the Ukrainian shipyard until 1998 when China purchased it and started a detailed plan regarding its development it was only developed 35% China completed it 100% this is an ambitious project that has been completed. No neither was it scrapped nor decommissioned how can a product be decommissioned when it is not developed ignorant fool. Japan does not operate Fighter AC they should be scared because this thing will have 3 squadrons of J-15s and other surprises and it will move in a Carrier Strike Group.

people here forget that it takes years to formulate carrier strike ops. they may have floated a carrier , they might even put jets on it . but using it as an effective weapon platform is another matter altogether. it will be at least 8 yrs before they are able to do that .

Unlike the Hollywood the star of the show, in this case the Shenyang J-15 Flying Shark, always appears last in the Chinese opera.
