India to buy 50 more Sukhoi Su-30MKIs!!

Friend its not about cost. Sukhoi-30MKI is about pride and protection of our nation. India going gr8. By 5years india would be far more lethel. 3 times more powerful airforce than at the moment it is. Mig21 will vanish and other lethel jet fighters will join our airforce like MRCA and Pak-fa etc etc. i like the way india picking jet fighters. 'quality' all the way.

Forget MiG-21s, the IAF also needs to get rid of obsolete MiG-27s and Jaguars. As of now, the only good fighters in IAF service are Su-30MKI, MiG-29s and Mirage-2000.

Needless to say, the MKIs are more than sufficient. However, IAF needs to speed up MRCA acquisition process because we need to diversify our fleet.

Imagine an air force which fields 320 Su-30MKIs, 70 MiG-29s and 126 F/A-18EFs. Yup, thats IAF for you by 2015.

P.S. Though it seems that IAF may pick F/A-18EF, I'm still of the opinion that Eurofighter Typhoons are the best fighters out there.

I think has the Indian GDP/ Military budget grows we can expect more and more orders.

India needs far bigger Air force than now.

PAK FA 5th gen FGFA at TESTING STAGE ready for 2018 ??

PAK-FA is not going to be inducted before 2019.The series production is not going to begin before 2015 so we need the numebrs the total numbers of IAF aircrafts comes to be
320 SU-30MKI(not confirmed. Most likely 270).
230 LCA (not before 2015)
126 MRCA (expect the delivery to be around (2015).
The problem is the next 5-6 years.we need to be very cautious as our arsenal is getting depleted way too fast.

Zhukovshy, Russia: Russian officials at MAKS 2009 (August 18 to 22) were upbeat about defence relations with India. The IAF will soon sign a contract for 50 additional Su-30MKI aircraft, and 40 more Mi-171V helicopters. Indian and Russian officials held extensive talks on upgrade of Su-30MKI and on modifications to carry BrahMos cruise missile on the aircraft. This is not all. According to Russian officials, the partnership on the fifth generation aircraft, PAK FA (T-50) and the Multi-purpose Transport Aircraft (MTA) is on schedule. Notwithstanding the uncertainty over INS Vikramaditya (Admiral Gorshkov), the first batch of MiG-29K/KUB fighters will be delivered to India by end this year. The remaining two IL-38SD aircraft of the Indian Navy with Russia since five years would also head home. And Russians are superbly confident of MiG-35’s successful participation in the 126 M-MRCA competition. They have also decided to field Kamov Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter for the IAF’s 22 attack helicopter tender. With so much on the bilateral platter, Indian officials were Russian’s favourite flavour at the air show.

Back in New Delhi, senior IAF officials confirmed that the case for Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 50 additional Su-30MKI has been sent to the defence ministry. (This is over and above the earlier 40 Su-30MKI being sought from Russia. With 230 aircraft to be assembled by HAL, the IAF will now have a total of 320 Su-30MKI aircraft.) As this purchase will be on a fast track basis to arrest depleting force levels, it would take a maximum of three months for clearance by the Cabinet Committee on Security, after which the contract would be signed. Considering that all this would be a formality, both sides discussed and agreed on the production schedule of these additional aircraft at MAKS-2009. The cost of these aircraft would be higher than the earlier lots. By how much, both sides remained tight-lipped, with one official finally saying that each aircraft could cost 10 per cent more. This single order is upwards of Rs 20,000 crore.

Friend do let me know why india would pick up F-18 (unless india brainless) instead of just saying it. i will tell you than why india would pick up rafael cheers.

Friend if india alone building pak-fa than yes 2019 seems right but the jet fighter being build by indo-russia. So whenever russia involved than its more likely jet fighter will get build as russia dont like wasting money. This is 2009 and pak-fa would fly this december. So saying 2019 is bit funny. 2014 is set date for induction of pak-fa and i dont think there would be delays specially when russia dont like wasting money. Delays means 'waste of money' and russia hates that. Cheers.

actually...

2015 the numbers will be

279 mki
65 mig-29 upg
16 mig-29k and possibly a follow on order for 30 more*
50 m2k upg
40-60 lca** (up to 300 possible)
40-60 mrca*** (up to 200 possible)
120 jaguars
100 bisons
50 mig-27 upg
12 tankers
6 phalcons
6 p8
6 medium range martime patrol a/c
aew for navy

700+ helicoptors of all types

pak-fa on the way

*i heard reports that all the paper work for the 30 more was done but it wasn't signed due to AG problem.

**considering 20 by 2011, another 20 by 2013, and another 20 blk 2 by 2015 seems very possible.

***1st 2 sqns to be delivered in fly away condition, rest will be made, so 2012 delivery starts by 2014 there's 36 of em, 2015 at least 50. oh and i am highly confident that the contract will go up to 200 since there is an option for 64 more which i highly believe will be exercised as in the case of the mki not once but twice.

by 2020 ur looking at

280 mki (upgraded with aesa, supercruise, new avionics, etc...)
200 mrca
200 lca
120 mig-29s (navy/a/f)
50 m2k
50 pak-fa
120 jaguars

mca in testing phase

Excellent news! I am not too sure about the final number of 320 though. I think it will be 230+50=280MKIs. imo the number 230 already includes the previous order of 40 additional MKIs. Anyway, 280 or 320, further addition of these beasts to the IAFs inventory is always welcome!
You are right, the 230 includes the order of 40 new by Russia, so it will be a total of 280. I hope they don't just buy new MKIs, but get directly the upgraded version with new engine and radar...

So will this new development also have an effect to MMRCA? I mean more heavy weight fighters means more operational costs and FGFA will be also not a small fighter (possibly the size of F18). Could this be an advantage to single engine fighters, or those fighters that can have low operational costs?

Btw, to those who asked why MMRCA is needed, both procurements are totally different! The MKI will be the main aircraft of IAF for air superiority, whereas the MMRCA is an addition in numbers to replace Mig 21 Bisons and to boost IAF capabilities with new techs and weapons.

Unfortunately, fact remains that politics and international diplomacy is going to play a major role and the ultimate decision won't be me made on the basis of merit alone. On the basis of merit, Eurofighter Typhoons are miles ahead of any other competitor.

I am guessing that's for just the 50 aircrafts?

They have been saying this for the last 1 year, They have the money but not sure who's lap they want to sit in USA or Russia.
Plus for the last 3 weeks Indian is bitching about Pakistan's Missile Technology and now the Harpoon issue, Did we say anything when they got a Nuke Sub we didn't care nor did our media, But they are taking the Harpoon matter so seriously that shows how scared they are. There Fighters most of them are grounded Su need upgrades none of there missiles buying another 50 Su will not matter much. We should not be concerned at all. This is the the first time India has realised that they are way behind Pakistan relating to Armed forces.

INS Arihant launch a destabilising step: Pak - Pakistan - World - NEWS - The Times of India

The launch of Arihant made Pakistan's defense minister issue a statement condemning it.

As for the entire Harpoon episode, the Indian government didn't even issue a statement but just discussed the matter with US Ambassador -

So, refrain from such childish rhetoric.

4-5 Billion $$$ for 50 Su 30MKI aircraft!!!

that is humongous amount for one aircraft, meaning 80-100 million $ for one

Mr Screaming Skull

Can i ask these?
are these aircraft scheduled to be delivered by 2015?
I've heard about negotiations for up gradation of present Su 30MKI b/w India and Russia, have they reached any??
If any what upgrades can we expect(like Radar)??
Why has the cost/aircraft gone up?

any info about reduction in RCS of these, new tech(smart skin)??

No offense to any of Indian brothers in this forum but 80-100 mil $ for Su 30MKI , that is more than Rafael and almost equivalent to Eurofighter fielded for MMRCA competetion!!!
