What's new

Saudi Arabia expresses interest in JF-17 co-production with Pakistan.

It's pretty obvious. They are the ones who funded the R&D almost entirely, they are the ones who undertook the vast majority of testing work, they are the ones who have invested the most in this project and,if they respected them would, hold all the IPRs. Are you seriously going to sit there and tell me Pakistan added much to the project? Before the Thunder they had next to 0 aeronautical engineering base fro supersonic fighters. Where has Pakistan picked up all its knowledge? From China of course! Is Pakistan getting Thunders on soft-loans from China- yay or nay? Yes, China lets Pakistan show of the JF-17 and promote it as they are the only AF in the world operating them- to date the PLAAF is yet to place a single order for them so it makes sense for the PAF to market the bird.

It doesn't take a genius to see who holds all the cards here.

this shows your lack of knowledge to the subject, you are what I will call a victim perceived dogma based on nationalistic pride & notions, rather then a rational thinking process !

before the jf-17 thunder Pakistan had the mirage rebuild factory, cobra attack choppers overhaul factory, Pakistan had built aircraft such as mushak & super mushak, k-8 Karakorum ! Pakistan Aeronautical Complex in Kamra was established by Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto more then 35 years ago !

Firstly it's not Pakistan's project- it is China's.

I can see the Saudis being somewhat interested in this as they are trying very hard to build up their own defence industrial manufacturing base. However I just don't see the Thunder project being all that attractive to them. Firstly they have 0 need for the Thunder and they are already spending a lot in other areas related to the EFT and lastly what kind of relations do the Saudis have with the Chinese? Would the Chinese even want the Saudis involved? The Chinese will be the ones calling the shots after all- they have the final say. They hardly need their money and the Saudis bring almost NOTHING to the project from a knowledge point of view.

All in all I am more than willing to state for the record that nothing will come of this.

There always seems to be a lot of speculation around the Thunder that turns to naught after a while- how many nations have been reported to be "seriously' interested in the Thunder now? And how many export orders? I'm not sure if it is just spin or someone is intentionally making things up but it makes one very cynical about anything that is reported on the Thunder from this point of view.

Egypt mulls JF-17 co-production and signs for more F-16s

According to Jane's Defence Weekly (Date Posted: 04-Mar-2010) Egypt is in talk with Pakistan on the co-production of the JF-17. If the deal goes through it will represent a major milestone for this program.

Mohammed Najib JDW Correspondent: Ramallah

Cairo is in talks with Pakistan to begin joint production of JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft, Jane's understands from Egyptian defence industry sources.

Even as the talks continued regarding JF-17 assembly in Egypt, however, the US Department of Defense announced on 2 March that an initial contract worth some USD213 million had been finalised with Lockheed Martin for Egypt's procurement of additional F-16C/D multirole fighters.

While the number of aircraft Egypt plans to acquire has not been revealed, the inclusion of local assembly in the deal suggests that the contract would be for at least 48 JF-17s.Brigadier General Mohammed Abdul Azim, a senior official at the government-owned Arab Organisation for Industrialisation (AOI), told Jane's on 3 March that negotiations were continuing and that a final contract announcement was not expected for several weeks.

later I read in news about Deadlock on TOT and can't remember date and time of the news.

This time Indian stooped very very low from their original Stoop level after hearing this news which is just news right now . No deal has struck yet and their buttt exploded and now they have two cleftal horizon

I wasn't questioning whether we were in negotiations with Pakistan and China for the JF-17 with TOT, I was questioning your statement about negotiations falling through. If you can share with me/us the source, that would be great.

Just in case if negotiations are falling apart, India has TEJAS on the plate for you...

That's exactly what I want you to understand. Pakistan making 70% avionics and 59 pc others after getting TOT from chinese doesn't make the aircraft less chinese,
go and learn meaning of JV and 50-50% partnership and joint development.
Don't talk without getting basic knowledge it's not TOT…;)

Bro, is it less chinese now?

Apple is produced in China but still its an american product and talks about american quality, chinese product, no matter where produced will allows be chinese.
you are funny dumb a$$ guy…… :coffee:
Go fight troll war at LCA thread…

good news if turns out to be true :)
this will definitely give a big boost to JF-17 project

According to non, we do not know about EAF and Pakistan discussions but EAF clearly chose to order more F-16s, it would not be very soon before EAF come back to the table or never since Migs and Flankers are offered by russians, F-16s is big deal $3b+.

More F-16's will always be ordered given that we have $1.3B in FMF to spend every year, the most recent purchase was to replace F-16's lost in accidents/crashes or due to attrition (about 20 fighters, they also put all F-4 Phantoms out of service). The F-16 however may not be a viable option to replace over 100 obsolete fighters...

All MIg-21's/F-7's are due for retirement by 2015 those on their own are about 100-120 fighter jets (all of which are used for point defence attached to the Air Defence Command). The Mirage III/V HORUS needs to be fully retired with only around two squadrons remaining out of 82 delivered. So that's another 24 fighters.

Further F-16 procurement is just a stop gap and any deal with the Russians (there has already been a deal for air defence systems) for jets will also be as capable if not more than the F-16's. What we need is a High-low mix of fighters and the JF-17 with ToT and TopT provides that, and is a very capable fighter for its price tag.
