What's new

Pakistan has taken the lead role in saving world cricket from disaster

As far as I know,

The proposal was rumoured on Jan 17, CSA opposed it on January 20 and officially became the first board. Later SLC board give opposing statement in public and then two conflicting statements from BCB were released. One supporting and another suggesting that the board of directors voted against this proposal.

We always knew PCB would oppose this idea and so it did. Now in my opinion PCB being the oldest board amongst all the 7 left out nation had the natural responsibility of leading from front. I am actually impressed with the way they worked out, first talk with rest of the boards in background channels and only started officially opposing from today. Ehsaan Mani wrote a letter to ICC on January 26th but he is no longer an official so I am only counting official stances in this case.

CSA has a cricketing history of over 100 years but after their ban they only came back to cricket map in 1990s. Nevertheless, it is PCB and CSA's job to take a stern action against it and gather whatever boards they can to support their claim of opposing this draft. I am happy about SLC and BCB and hope West Indies cricket will also stand besides us.

The responsibility lies equally on the shoulders of PCB and CSA to save the cricket and any board contributing in this noble cause would be considered hero when the history will be written by the legends.

I don't think there is any hero in this because the 3 idiots have threatened to leave the ICC rendering further mess lol

Though as a Indian I dont support the proposal there are idiots like @airmarshal who link it to caste system in India. Hail these glorious mind..!!

they won't trust me

Because they would know that they are the culprits who have brought cricket to this stage. They will just revert to old days of 2 weeks ago or get some extra but minor powers in the ICC but nothing much to be happy about.

England is being criticised in England by its former players. Australia is being cricitised in Australia by its former administrators and so is India being criticised by some former Indian players.

It is unpopular decision even in their native nations and we talk about other nations accepting it blindly... Nothing going to happen

The only thing I foresee is, Asia cup might be at risk

typical bharti mentality of indian cricket board , try to control ICC ...:nono:

All top rated teams of Cricket world are against this deal. Let India play three some . They will eventually come back. But it is the time to kill this filthy ideology of monopoly in the world of sports.

Taking control of ICC is bit much but do tell me .. why should we share the revenue earned by us with you folks or any other board for that matter ?

Its simple. BCCI, ECB and CA have been shoring up the other boards for a long period of time.
Let ICC be a revenue neutral body. with every board having to contribute an equal amount and then preach for equal shares.

No more handouts, no more free lunches. If you cant contribute monetarily which you probably cant given the sorry state of affairs financially PCB, BCB etc is in, either accept 2nd class citizenship of ICC or form your own version of ICC. This is ridiculous. How on earth can you guys claim an even share of the profits ?

Sharam naam ka cheez hai ki nahi ?

Changes from original proposals
  • 1. Original Two-tiers with promotion and relegation of Nos 9 &10 ranked team, with BCCI, CA & ECB exempt from relegation.
  • New principle There will be an opportunity for all Members to play all formats of cricket on merit, with participation based on meritocracy; no immunity to any country, and no change to membership status.
  • 2. Original Creation of a Test Cricket fund to be distributed among BCB, ZC, NZC, SLC, PCB and WICB.
  • New principle Test Cricket fund money to be available to South Africa as well
  • 3. Original An Executive Committee (ExCo) to have four members, include three permanent representatives from CSA, BCCI and ECB who would share an annual rotating chairmanship.
  • New principle The establishment of an ExCo and Financial & Commercial Affairs Committee (F&CA) to provide leadership at an operational level, with five members, including BCCI, CA and ECB representatives

Seriously, .. haath phailkaey chaley aatey hain .. 2 paisey kamakey deney aukad nahi hai .. chaley aaye muh uthakey.

Bloody unfair, the revenue distribution system till date.

The ICC Board unanimously supported the following principles:

There will be an opportunity for all Members to play all formats of cricket on merit, with participation based on meritocracy; no immunity to any country, and no change to membership status.

A Test Cricket Fund paid equally on an annual basis to all Full Members (except the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board) will be introduced to encourage and support Test match cricket.

A larger percentage from the increasing Associate Members' surplus will be distributed to the higher performing non-Full Members.

Mutually agreed bi-lateral FTP Agreements which will be legally binding and bankable and will run for the same period as the ICC commercial rights cycle (2015-2023).

Recognition of the need for strong leadership of the ICC, involving leading Members, which will involve BCCI taking a central leadership responsibility.

A need to recognise the varying contribution of Full Members to the value of ICC events through the payment of 'contribution costs'.

The establishment of an Executive Committee (ExCo) and Financial & Commercial Affairs Committee (F&CA) to provide leadership at an operational level, with five members, including BCCI, CA and ECB representatives. Anybody from within the Board can be elected to Chair the Board and anybody from within ExCo and F&CA can be elected to Chair those Committees. With the ICC undergoing a transitional period that includes a new governance structure and media rights cycle, this leadership will be provided for two years from June 2014 by: a BCCI representative to Chair the ICC Board, a CA representative to Chair the ExCo and an ECB representative to Chair the F&CA.

A new company will be incorporated to tender future commercial rights for ICC events. There will be three major ICC events in each four-year cycle, including the ICC Champions Trophy which will replace the ICC World Test Championship.

ICC will utilise a more efficient operating model for all ICC events, with a simplified accounting model across ICC income and expenditure to help better manage ICC administrative and event costs.

I oppose tier system and the exclusive committe draft, but current financial system is a sham. Why should india, eng and australia get same as zimbabwe ?BBCI alone pulls what 80% of revenues ?PCB actually lives on funds generated by india. So india asking for 21% is not too much.Financial organization needs to be revamped so some of the lazy boards that just sit and rely on ICC doles actually work. The tier system and powergrab should be opposed ,these are masterminded by srinivasan- the corrupt evil genius of BCCI who has whole board in his pocket and has even got away after doing mass fixing in IPL through his son-in-law.He now wants to be first chairman of this new exclusive committee.

Exactly. ICC aint a commie institution. Everyone has to pull an equal share revenue to ask for an equal share.

Let India pull its funds out ... sabki akal thikaney aa jaegi.

That reinstatement of Zaka Ashraf is a fresh breather for the PCB.Though nothing near to ideal both of them,Zaka and Najam sethi but, Zaka's way of managing things is/was quite different and was proving effective at least on the stage of PCB's administration.
He's not the favorite of the current GoP though. But it looks like that his presence can create some balance in the current state of affairs that were supposed to go only in one way and that is downwards.

His present task of pleading Pakistan's case is hell of a job.Though he used to duck these bouncers in the past. And there were some concerns about his presence as a Pakistani representative. But after his reappointment,he seems to be taking his job pretty seriously.Good for him,the PCB and Pakistani at large.

Though it'll be a speculation, but most of my fellow Pakistanis can understand how a handicapped Najam sethi(who wasn't enjoying his full freedom of power and authority and was very much inclined to the "dekhi jaye gi" type of policy) would have dealt something like this. So,that was a very timely decision by the Islamabad High court to bring him back.
