In Turkish 'Doner' literally means 'Turning or Rotating', Iskender Bey from Bursa invented it.. He was the first chef to lift meat from a horizontal position on the grill to a vertical one, hence 'Doner', turning... Best ones are done over charcoal, and the best quality one are made from pieces of steak, not minced meat...

Bro, the Iraqi biryani is actually quite good as well. But probably nothing on the Hyderabadi biryani!

actually the Avadhi Biryani is good as well but they are not that much famous in India . . .

@Jaanbaz , yara there is this one AWESOME Indian/Pakistani restaurant in Manchester (huge huge, horrible looking building, like the size of two football fields, two floors).... forgot the name of it...... whenever our banks had meeting, we used to travel there to eat later...... I mean you needed an reservation month in advance, and the place was always full full......

I'll try to fish out the name..... the food was amazing though.......

Yeah, the Yemeni community in the UK is probably the oldest established/settled UK Muslim community.

But surprisingly there are not many British Arabs. About 250.000. I mean in France you have 3-4 million alone. And overall in Europe about 10 million or so. Still nothing compared to the 30-40 million Arabs in Latin America.

Pakistan was a former British colony and economic reasons too i guess Early Pakistanis and Blacks from Carribaen Islands were invited to rebuild Britian after Second World War. The Arab community in France is stronger simply because France once held countries like Algeria as its colony.

About who invented what first:

People, at least those in the ME where animals such as sheep etc. were first domesticated and were they are a symbol probably used similar foods to what we know today as shawarma, falafel, kebab, gyros etc. thousand upon thousands of years ago or at least a long, long time ago. I have no doubt that the ancient civilizations in the ME used similar foods already back then. After all it's not that hard to take a roasted x or y animal and roast it across some fire and then slice its meat off and then put that meat into some bread or eat it separately with some added ingredients such as dairy products, vegetables, olives etc. Same thing more or less.

There was a place here doing Lebanese style döner, I never had the change to try because its closed right after I moved here, I heard it some people found it interesting and tasteful, while some disliked.

This is what my Kurdish neighbors sent on Eid. We used to constantly exchange foods. It tasted so nice. Had a salty taste to it different from Pakistani/Indian spicy food.

Haha, I remembered something. When I was in London, where most British Arabs live, I visited Harrods etc. Is that still owned by Al-Fayed? I also visited Edgware Road. Apparently where most Arabs live. Quite a place.

That's like simple Afghani rice....... just rice and lamb...... the lamb is cooked very slowly with just salt and garlic.....
