Any questions regadring Sri Lanka - 2

Na, football and boxing are better. Is football popular in Sri Lanka?

No Football is just about stamina and ball control. Boxing is about stamina and brute force.

But Rugby is everything.

My grand dad, grand uncle and my dad all played for Ceylon in Rugby before they migrated.. My grand dad is a patron of the Radella club (Ex planter)

Woah..... great. Is the Radella club still functioning? Never heard it before except for Radella cricket ground. :P

Rugby is fun but it's weird how it's set out into Rugby league and Rugby Union, this confuses a lot of people,

Last i heard it was.. It goes as Dimbula Cricket and Athletic club.. They used to play rugby on the Cricket grounds on season.. One of my uncles (Maternal) is still in the committee at CR & FC.. Michael Matthysz.. He is a former president and Royal College prop

Simple.. Union has 15 players a side with line out's, Mauls, Rucks and 8 man scrums

League has 13, No line outs,Mauls or rucks and a 5 man scrum.. Also you get to be tackled only 5 times, after the ball goes to the opposition

Rugby Union is more fun to me than the league.

where are Jayasuria and Murli now a days?

Jayasuriya is a chief selector these days and a serial divorcee while being a third class politician (A south Asian trait)

Muuri.. Is having a pretty charmed life playing circus cricket at IPL and making a ton of moolah and doing his charity work.. Ace bloke..

To be frankly Pakistan is viewed as the heroin hub of South Asia. The recent bust on heroin has connection to Pakistan. Mostly many Pakistanis were also arrested for smuggling Herion.

Other than that Pakistan is considered Sri Lanka's friend and a power house in SA.

We've got Afghanistan next door where all the heroin is grown & comes through the porous border into Pakistan to serve as a conduit !

Preety Good thread... I hope it becomes sticky

Rugby is a rowdy game played by gentlemen
Foot ball is a gentle game played by rowdies

How will you rate cricket here....

1. What are the major problems Srilankans face from India?

2. What are the demands Srilanka has from India..?

3. What Indian companies are big in Srilanka..?

Well first of all Burghers are as native to Sri lanka as any Sinhalese, Tamil, Moor or Malay.. The only people that can truly contest against it are the native Vedda's.. Burghers are distinctively Sri Lankan, They're recognized as a distinct Sri Lankan ethnicity in it's constitution

As any other ethnicity Burghers do have social classes within the community, Most Dutch Burghers would like to consider themselves the rightful hires of the lineage, While there are others of many social and economic strata.. So there is no uniform parity.. So the answer to your question is.. No we dont consider ourselves superior

The term Sri Lankan Burghers these days are ambiguous, Decades of intermarriage have made the community endangered to say the least.. It is a very liberal community in it's out look.. Consensus does not show the true numbers, Most are mistakenly identified as Sinhalese or Tamil through marriage

Hardline language policies of Sinhala nationalist govt's in the 50's drove many Burghers overseas, Especially to Australia, UK and the North America, Where there are thriving communities still with very strong links to the motherland
burgher means anglo indian ,right????
my aunty is an anglo indian malayali(she is of mixed portuguese-malayali lineage)...there are not considered as a separate ethnic group in kerala and listed as a group within the malayali community...unlike srilanka, there are not a rich affluent community in kerala...mostly are poor and indulging in minor hotel and candle making business...

Nope it means Sri Lankan of mainly Dutch descent but those who have Portuguese , Belgian, French, German and British lineage also consider themselves Burgher..

We're Eurasians, Like Anglo Indians but that does not make us Indians.. Anglo means mainly English.. Burghers are mainly Dutch/Germanic

The word Burgher means "Town people" in Dutch

And again just like any community Burghers also have different economic strata.. Not all Burghers are affluent.. A lot of people lived in deprivation

Cricket is popular but not considered a religion or the fans are not as fanatical about it as the rest of the sub continent.. Cricketers do not get mobbed on the roads around there

1. SL does not have a problem with India.. But it has major problems with the state of TN, From politics of attrition, threats of terrorism, Aggressive posturing against the territorial integrity of the island, Mass scale poaching in our waters by organized crime backed by sections of the TN govt, Illegal migration, Over staying/ Doing illegal trade while on tourist visa's, Smuggling contraband/Arms, trying to intervene on domestic affairs of the country, SL citizens and establishments been attacked and threatened in TN etc

2. Indian govt want's a peaceful settlement to the ethnic problem.. They want some of the constitutional amendments to put to practice like the 13th amendment as promised, Which is not a unfair demand or request

3. TATA, Bajaj as far as i know many others
