Democracy put to the test in Romania

Klaus Werner Iohannis is the new President of Romania.
What effect do you think this will have in Romania's future? Is he capable of fulfilling his promises or are the Barons etc too politically strong to be directly tackled?
From an outsider's point of view, this is some good news. But I'd like the point of view of a Romanian before jumping to any conclusion.

The Barons are at their weakest moment, many of them are in jail or facing penal charges allready.Iohannis as President is a guarantee that the Justice system will not be tempered with and allowed to run its course. In fact, that's all i want from him, that and decency for this kind of job.

Anyway, our country just became a role model for Europe,or even the world,by electing somebody from a small ethnic and religious minority (he's not an orthodox) as President.

Zambia has a white president. Beat that!

@flamer84 I heard Moldova is coming to EU, what about the plans of reunification with Romania.

You must lend me that crystal ball sometimes....I mean it's good that he promised some stuff and all, but Iohannis chief of staff ( this guy - Vasile Blaga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ) is -surprise - one of the barons listed above by Flamer as a negative example, responsible for one of the biggest frauds in recent times....
Do you think he will now get indicted, with Iohannis president?

Basically, we voted for the representative of some barons against the representative of another group of barons. What's tragic is that many people now believe that democracy won out and "change" has arrived...
This entire situation would be funny if it wasn't so tragic..

Yes,i think he will.He to will be engulfed by the EADS scandal. The fact that the 2nd day after he won the elections he called on a vote regarding "the imunity and pardons law" seems a jolly good start.

No such plans, just the usual "brother nations together in the EU" and lately a lot of our money going towards Moldova. We just surpassed Russia (for the first time since 1992) as their first trading partner.
