Kamorta class corvettes for VPN ?

No, if I read it correctly, @RISING SUN said it will be based on the Sukanya class OPV. If it is, then I would be worried as the Sukanya class are old design like you've said. And these older generation OPV hulls are not designed to have the high survivability standards like corvettes or frigates.

It would be better if it is based on the Kamorta or the newer Saryu class OPV.

Dont know who is Rising Sun. But I can definitely tell you, new OPV based on Sukanya is not possible. Even buying them will be a idiotic move.

@Carlosa One thing, Suknya was never meant to deploy Dhanush ballistic missile, it was just a test bed, and only one ship changed to meet that requirement. And deploying a Dhanush with Suknaya in combat environment is not favorable,

Ahh, thank you. Good to know.

I dont even know why Dhanush ballistic missile was even brought up.

It's a cumbersome, useless naval missile with very, very, very limited use in the IN.

Someone said @RISING SUN is a Navy guy.

He didn't really specifically say it's a Sukanya class, just a modification or hybrid of that class. He's given us hints here and there which confuses us.

I hope the final orders will not be based on the Sukanya class hull.

Have to also keep in mind that the Kamortas were expensive because there were a lot of developmental issues and delays, that's all over now and they should be cheaper to make.

Yup, firstly the Steel that used in that ship, should be imported from Russia. But russia refused, so SAIL India started development of in-house production. This causes 2 years delay and cost overrun.

Wow !!! Russia doesn't like to help India to make its own ships, just wants India to buy Russian ships. Interesting, that lesson also applies to vietnam I think.

The export version of the Kamorta will not be expensive. GRSE is currently bidding for the Philippines tender ($420 million for two ships, excluding armaments).

If VietNam add in armaments and radar such as MF-Star, Barak-8 and torpedos, it would probably still be around $350 million for 1 ship, which is the price of the Sigmas.
Barak 8 (missile) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Barak 8 is an unparallel system.Any type of Chinese offensive cant pass the defense of Barak 8.

Definitely, but overall cost of Kamotra always remain high including maintenance and Refit. Canister based system is always easier and cheap to maintain than VLS based system.

Yup, delayed IAC, etc. as well.

Many other cases like this, Israelis are a lot fairer.

But it was a good thing they did that, because India doesnt need them in that area anymore.

In house designing and production is always a painstaking job.If you want to create your own system ,you need your own tech and money. And it may delay the induction.
Same steel issue caused the delay of our own ACC INS Vikrant. But it helped us in another way now we are going to develop 65000 tonclass ACC.
First induction of new brand system of our own would always difficult. But ones you mastered then it is not an issue.
