According to "Pakistan trains Afghan soldiers: Enough to build trust?" on Deutsche Welle -- the scale of the Afghan tilt towards India can be understood by:

There are currently 300 Afghan cadets in India, receiving training from the Indian army. The Pakistani generals offered similar assistance to Afghanistan in the past to counter India's growing influence in Afghanistan, but former Afghan President Hamid Karzai declined, preferring New Delhi over Islamabad.

...

However, General Atiqullah Amarkhail, Afghanistan's former air force commander and a member of the Afghan government's advisory council on military issues, said, "It is a bad idea to send officers to Pakistan for military trainings," as this could upset India.

...

"If Pakistan and Afghanistan want to work together, there are other ways to do it. There is an anti-Indian sentiment among the Pakistani military and it comes up in the trainings. How useful can Afghan officers with anti-Indian sentiment be for our country?" said the former Afghan general.

...

Its logical for afghan govt to sceptical about pakistani army training as they may copy their trainers in toppling elected govt in afghanistan ..One cant rule out that kind of thinking ..

@BDforever Seikho inse kuch

In the end Afghanistan will suffer again. India would use Afghanistan against Pakistan, Pakistan will retaliate in Afghanistan thus continuing a tradition of keeping Afghanistan as backwards as possible. If some Afghans think India cares about average Afghans then they are fools.

This was the first batch.. more to come... these old puppets are powerless.. look at the ground realities... the level of cooperation taking place between our countries as we speak.

the DW source is actually a fox news version of europe.......Dont follow it. Its actually quoting the people who dont even live in the region to begin with nor hold any credibility.

Good news India should train more Afghans (especially Tajiks) cadets

And more Indian Aid is coming.

You have to admire the Afghans: by throwing us Pakistanis a worthless bone we think the power balance is about to change in the region.

We conveniently forget that the Afghans who are born in Pakistan and have not known any other country hate Pakistan and Pakistanis.

Training 6 ANA will only produce 6 Pakistan hating Afghans.

If he had half a brain we would send these 6 and their 4 million brethren to India or back to their loy-Afghanistan.

Whats the difference between you and them than? you also dislike them due to persona reasons n so on... but come on... PM Ghani is doing the best ..... he has done what karzai (turd) couldnt/wouldnt n didnt do in a decade...

ANA is now targetting ttp.... Afghan n Pak intel agencies are now sharing intelligence... for the first time sent their cadets (this is the initial batch as i mentioned before)...

Ghanis statements about writting a new "book" and forgetting the past .. his visits to the GHQ and Parliament.. our COAS and PM visiting Afghanistan etc...

A new era of good relations has started.. so lets not dwell in the past... but look forward to the future.

I don't know what the difference between myself and "them" is -- but perhaps the difference between myself and you is that I look at the burden of history -- and a few visits here and there and a few empty proclamations of Afghan-**** bhai bhai will not change squat.

Need I remind you:
..Zahir Shah's bonhomie with Pakistan
..Daud Khan's bonhomie with Pakistan
..The whole Mujaheddin council was based in Pakistan

Anyone with half a brain knows that Afghanistan's fortunes are intertwined with Pakistan's -- I would encourage you to dig out old videos (youtube) newspaper articles from 30 years ago -- from 60 years ago -- from 100 years ago -- from 120 years ago -- the stories are so identical it's not even funny.

Once I was reading an article and only midway did I realize that it was from 50 years ago -- I think the Afghans have not reconciled with the fact Pakistan is not the Sikh empire.

For crying out loud even the Taliban hate Pakistanis.

If burying hatchets is what we want to do -- I say we have a better chance of burying hatchets with the 56-inch ki chatti wala than Afghans. And, in case you have not been following tolo, hashte-subh, even these token moves are extremely unpopular in Afghanistan.
