My Question ? If JF 17 is capable enough why we are purchasing even used F16

they are both good
but they are quite diffferent the blk2 and the f16 blk 50 52
a mix is good

Based to the news you paid like 12 m$ to jordan for their viper that's not bad.

Don't forget the majority of the Israeli, Egyptian and the Turkey vipers are old blocks. still in service.

I think the PAF wait on the third block that we may see next 3 years.
Those were actually special prizes set for us and they came with harsh clauses which compensate the prize for americans. Also Jordan ones were ADA variants of F16A/B and were very downgraded. They even didnt had the missile warning devices.....We are now updating them with MLU-III grade. So all in all its net money will cost more per unit after updates.

Bhai F16 jitne hon Kam hain, they are the pride of PAF and very very competitive air combat platform, and we are getting them cheaper so its the bonus....

We can compare Falcon with JFT after thunderl's block 3 ... On this very moment there is no comparision I think :)

But I don't think your MoD forced to buy them no they know it was a good deal.

So, all in all how many viper in service with PAF.

For us its different when it comes to american weaponry. Read Mr Jungibaaz's post

The simple most answer would be ... while the JF-17 is a very potent aircraft, and is without question capable enough -- however it has its limitations -- in range and payload ...

The F-16 does not have those limitations, being a more heavier aircraft capable to fly more and drop more payload then a JFT ..

However, F-16 especially the blk-52 still has little (unees bees kai ) advantages over the JF-17 -- eg. you have the JHMCS and Aim-9M combo on the blk-52, JFT currently doesn't have such an advanced HMD, however you will see one in the blk-III of JFT most probably with A-darter or a chinese origin 5th gen short range missile -- then you have superior T/W ratio of the falcons etc..

But the main reason happens to be the one mentioned first, JF-17 is a light weight class aircraft, F-16 happens to be a medium weight class aircraft -- which is why PAF will still go for F-16's unless there is a substitute there for the F-16, J-10B perhaps, if it becomes available and is considered viable with a chinese engine ...

The real reason have been mentioned. Both Falcon and Thunder belong to same Weight category..........

Not that T55 again. If we buy Mig19 in the presence of Falcons then probably the example you quoted will fit better

compare both in the weight, range, the useful payload and -- the story is quite different --- and having such differences dictates that both are being used for different roles as mentioned before, so there you have it ...

The same reason we are buying more T-55s from Serbia when Al-Khalid is such a great tank: utilizing whatever suits the role the best and offers the most value.

Actually no. The F-16 is only about a decade or so younger the T-55, while the MiG-19 is a decade or so older. Even the JF-17's design goes back to the early 90s at least. The point is that suitability to the role matters more than the chronological age. That is why half-centrury old B-52s still are on active duty.

The JF-17 is a great plane, but so is the F-16. A combination would work very well to serve PAF's needs.
