FC-1 (JF-17) powered by WS-13 engine carries Taxi Trials

According to Chinese media ,FC-1 (local Chinese name for JF-17) has recently carried out successful taxi trials powered by a Chinese made WS-13 engine ,currently first batch of 40 aircraft which will be supplied to Pakistan are powered by Russian Klimov RD-93B turbofans, while WS-13 has 10% greater thrust but is also having Quality issues with the turbine blades . Next batch of JF-17 which will be build in Pakistan will have this Chinese engine and same will be offered to export market , Chinese are already working on an improved engine which again will have further thrust .

no one is perfect in this world and these kind of issues rise in USA's tech when they start making new things, but later things are always improved and issues are fixed..

Same will happen here. In start JF-17 had no alternative other than russian engine, but now we have one which is tested successfully, so there is some sigh of improvement. Of-course these issues will be fixed soon and we'll hear good news soon :pakistan::china:

single crystal tech is the toughest to master ...its the only daemon in KAVERI's performance deficit ....the chinese maybe experiencing the same difficulties .... it will be a miracle if they put ws-13 into productin aircraft in a year ...i believe it will take atleast 3 years before an operational squadron of jf-17 or even fc-1 will fly with this engine

Do you know for how many decades China has been manufacturing aircraft engines and how many simultaneous programs they have for future turbofan engines. Can you also enlighten me why is it necessary to bring India into equation every time a Chinese or Pakistani development is discussed?

The Thunder IS tested with WS-13 which goes on to show that the engine has crossed most of the hurdles it was facing. No one is fool enough to put a faulty engine in a single engined aircraft even for taxi trials. Now please don't come up with Kaveri stuff as everyone knows its fate in years to come.
 
the dificult part was to redesign the jf-17 for ws-13

it is done only testing is remaining
 
I dont suppose there was any redesigning needed on the JF-17 for the WS-13. JF-17 is a modular design built in a way that new things can be in cooperated with little or not modification at all.

and another one to design the chassis
now try fitting a Yukon engine in a Nissan Tida.

Jokes apart, IMHO this is pure speculation.
the WS-13 has a long way to go, before it is accepted good enough to power a war machine.
The problem is not just with the blades, that is a symptom event only.
the root cause of the problem is lack of experience in metallurgical sciences and fabrication technology.
Even if that technology is acquired as we speak now, it will take years to go through the quality cycles, to get to more than 4 digit accuracy !
Any thing less then that, is not even worth mentioning for an air craft.
 
The single crystal blade is constantly improving and the latest DD3 are just fine on WS-10A. WS-13 is built on licensed tech of RD-33 core and Russians contributed to some auxiliary design too. The engine is meant to be matured quickly to replace RD-93. The WS-12 is based on more advanced tech. It's the next option in the future.

You wanna contest my post....may i suggest do so in a civilized manner with something to back your claim up as there is nothing offensive in my post.Coming back to your post The highlighted part is pure nonsense on your part and i will suggest to you is to go learn a few bits about modular designs and how JF-17 is benefiting from it before coming out and posting just for the sake of increasing posts. JF-17 would hardly need any modification to change from RD-93 to WS-13 why because PAF knew it could not continue with a Russian power plant for long because of the unreliability of the spares and has to replace it with a domestic version and JF-17 is designed keeping that in view. You are welcome to go through the JF-17 thread last couple of pages and you will see what i am talking about.

PS i am not mentioned anything related to the quality of the WS-13 so whether it has matured enough to be used on JF-17 or not has nothing to do with the fact that it can be installed on JF-17 without or little modifications.
 
if further confirmed, this is a GREAT news for us.

We wont need the RD-93s then for future batches. And surely, we could get ToT in the longer-run.

Salute to Chinese brothers/sisters for this feat.
