  • Ayesh, Sir,
Thank you for your concern. I imagine that you are a young man just starting out in life. I am 65 years old and had hoped to have my nice view of water and the wild living things that come to it to enjoy in my retirement years. So, I may decide to accept that I have lost money because my property is no longer as valuable, but sell anyway and find another place to enjoy a view of a lake and the waterbirds and such that come to the lake. We'll see. My wife said today: "Let's just accept our loss and move on! Life is too short to live with disappointments when you don't have to." So, maybe I will find a different house by a different lake ...

    Best regards,

    TS
    Ayesh, Sir,
Yes, I think you are right. They just "kicked the can down the road". That's an American slang expression that comes from the game idle little boys (and men, too) play when they have nothing better to do, they just kick a tin can around. Havew you heard this expression? So, yes I think they are just putting me off. I have accepted that they will not really go forward with our proposal. So, instead of a lake to look at, I will have new growth trees. It's not as pretty as a lake but it is somewhat peaceful looking. I do see deer and foxes out my windows now. Before I saw ducks, geese, blue herons, egrets, osprey, eagles, beavers, and lot's of turtles. C'est la vie!

    Hi!
First of all,it's a not a problem with me either way.And i haven't seen you that active on the forum as well so not a big issue. :)
    Now towards your question.
The physiological aspect comes more in to play when we talk about formulations and individual drugs rather the modes of introduction. It does matter in absorption but it has little to do in practice ,pharmacists usually present formulations in market that are already been tried and tested keeping the issue of different absorption, distribution, half life, metabolism ,elimination and other pharmacodynamic properties in mind.
So there is no question of an emergency drug ,that is required to be introduced directly in to the blood and requiring quick distribution through out the system existing in the form of syrup or solution. It will always have a parenteral product. It will be liquid not solid ,ready to be mixed with saline or direct administration. And care should be taken and the child is well monitored when drug is administered parenteral.
On the other hand, In children different enzyme systems are immature, that includes enzymes in liver , G.I.T. and kidneys. So there always a danger of toxicity.Plus Oral medications do not have to be pure or sterile. As gastric secretions neutralizes most pathogens.
Since you are just comparing tablets and syrups and that's a pretty limited question.
An intelligent question would have been what's the difference in pharmacokinetics of oral solid and liquid modes of administration of different drugs?
To understand this every drug has different pharmcokinetics. And that's why mostly they are classified in to different groups ,depending upon their mode of action(pharmacodynamics) and pharmacokinetics and target effects. You can't generalized "physciological aspects if present like the differnces in metabolism as well as beneficial & harmful aspects": (as you said) on every drug.
There are thousands of drugs/with hundreds of different formulations and it took me almost an year to have a grasp on all this stuff.

I've a link for you regarding pediatric drug routes and modes .Do go through it,it'll be informative and it discusses everything on fundamental level.

Next time please be specific, so that the discussion can lead us to some conclusion. :)

    Have a good time.

    My regards.

    Ayesh, Sir!
Well I gave my presentation this late afternoon to my County Board of Supervisors. They decided to have the County "staff" study the proposal and come back in early January for another look at the facts. So they didn't kill the idea, for that I am glad. On the other hand, our proposal may die a slow death as the Government studies it forever ...

I have not bee3n on the faculty at a University. When I did my PhD studies I was a teaching assistant until my thesis work. I was a Research and Engineering scientist and manager at a Fortune 500 American company for all of my career before retirement. At the end of my carrer I studied and was certified as a US Patent Agent. So, now, I consult on patent issues and problems to earn a bit of extra income in my retirement.

    Aadaab!
    Nice to know:)

Well syrups, solutions, suspensions, mixtures and tablets are all different modes of administration for any patient.Administered through the oral route.First thing that comes to mind is that children are more compliant when given drugs in liquid form.
Talking in layman terms children haven't learned how to engulf a tab in those early years of life, and there is a greater risk of aspiration/ or you can say they are less cooperative that way and the doctor thinks it's better to go via liquid mode.
The other thing is that most children are smart people.( just like me :p)They keep the tab in the mouth and spit that when the mom thinks she has done the job.Just to out maneuver her. hehe!!
So we advice mothers when we prescribe medications in the form of tabs and capsules it's better to give them mixed in small amount of jams, custard, yogurt anything that the child is not suppose to chew.

    To cut it short.
Other factors are the age of child, availability of commercially available preparations.etc(Need not to be discussed at this point of time.)

Regarding your research.Should i expect something better than Bacille Calmete-Guerin is coming in the market?? :)

You are becoming a biochemist i think you must have read about that bacteria in detail in the microbiology classes.Haven't you?? Isn't microbiology a subject there? If not.
It all comes with in medically relevant microbes. And your first assignment is to read everything about Mycobacteria tuberculosis specifically and the structure of bacteria in general. Then we'll proceed further.

And meanwhile when you want to chill in the forum. You can post anything you want /share any type of stuff there in the whatever thread in members club.
And it'll be better to conceal your identity as a female (i'will delete this phrase letter on).Just my two cents.
Hope to listen from you on the forum as well.Feel free to ask anything.Take care.

    Regards

    Ayesh, Sir,
I am making a presentation to our County Board of Supervisors tomorrow afternoon. After some discussion of our plan, they will vote as to whether or not they want to pursue our proposal to the stage of having a complete financial analysis done by the County staff. I'll let you know how it turns out. So, tomorrow we may get a "no" vote or a "maybe" vote on our dam restoration plan.

PS: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! a couple of days late!!
    WS!
Yeah i've some time free on my disposal now.Just some days for refreshing up. :) So, what's the topic/drugs you want to ask me about?
& Are you a student or doing some job?
    Regards.
Yes United Pakistan is my dream....I never want to see my country ever broken. I hate all those e-people who talk to break Pakistan. I am at many pashtun forums but i m almost alone at those places in my thoughts. Thanks for ur msg...sorry for my late response and thanks for becoming friend.
May Allah Almighty shower His blessings upon U!
O' my apologies, didn't know that. You can always ask anything about drugs or about the topic of your research(if it's related to my field). And i'll be there for help.I usually come here online for some minutes, these days i'm busy with some Viva and Practical(TOAC) stuff, told you earlier.
Please precisely tell me the topics or drugs you want to discuss.I'll get free with in a week and then we'll discuss it thoroughly.
    Regards.
I live next to a lake. Four years ago a hurricane brought so much rain that the lake's dam was eroded, draining the lake. We want the dam to be fixed and are willing to pay for it with increased taxes, but so far we haven't convinced our local County government to do it. The dam is owned by a private person who is willing to sell his property to the County, but the County, so far, doesn't want to become involved. Unfortunately for us the regulations about dams are so complicated that we need the County government to fight our State and Federal governments to allow the dam to be rebuilt. It is sad but only if our County government politicians convince our State government politicians that it is OK to do this, will they allow it. So that is my problem. I built my house next to a lake to enjoy the wildlife and the serene views. So, for me, I just want to re-capture the pleasant view that I once had. That is the benefit to me. If the County will buy the land and rebuild the dam, then the lake would be open to anyone in the public for non-power boating and fishing. Also our property values would be increased so we would pay the County more tax money for them to spend on other things as well. Unfortunately, the Republican vs. Democrat contest is interfering with good business sense on the part of our politicians.

I have made an appointment to have lunch with one of the politicians who is opposing our plan next week. I hope to convince him to be a good fellow and help us, even if he doesn't like the politician who represents our neighborhood!

    Regards,
    TS
    Ayesh,
Things are going OK, but not great with me today. I have a problem with my local government that I am trying to solve, so far without much success. Basically, we have three Republican and two Democrats on our County Government Board of Supervisors. Our neighborhood needs the County to do a project for us which we have agreed to pay for by accepting an increased tax on our properties. But, our Supervisor is a Democrat and the three Republican Supervisors won't approve the project we need because our Supervisor is not in their party. Bummer!

Yaar i dont have time for this. If you want to ask anything professional in particular, go ahead or else a 'thread' is a best place to clear queries.
    Auesh, Sir,

I am retired after a 30 year career in R&D for a US computer peripheral manufacturer. I am also a US patent agent. So, now I consult on patent issues and serve as an expert witness in legal proceedings from time to time. Mostly I do prior art searches for a couple of US companies, helping them decide what to file patents on and looking for potential patent infringement problems.

    TS
Yes, I am really a PhD in Physics. But I am retired now. I passed my PhD exam in 1971, almost 40 years ago!
