The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Patron-in-Chief, Gohar Ejaz, has welcomed the historic announcement of providing regionally competitive energy with a countrywide uniform price to the textile industry in the budget.

He has expressed his deep gratitude to Prime Minister Imran Khan for keeping his words of reviving the export-oriented textile industry on Tuesday. During his visit to APTMA office in the month of February this year, he added, Imran Khan had promised to bring textile industry out of crisis soon after coming into power.

The textile millers have taken a sigh of relief after a long period of non-viability and are expecting a revival of the industry in the days ahead. They have further expressed the hope that a long term export-led growth policy would soon be announced to double country’s exports and create more jobs and growth of economy.

"He said the textile industry was burdened with energy cost worth Rs100 billion per annum during the last five years, resultantly, 30 percent production capacity was closed down, export-potential worth $4 billion became redundant and thousands of workers were laid off by the industry. "

Repeated calls by the APTMA kept falling on the deaf ears of the previous government that led to the closure of over 100 member mills’ operations, particularly in the province of Punjab.

He said APTMA leadership made a detailed presentation to Imran Khan during his visit to APTMA office in Lahore and suggested him the way forward to take the industry out of crisis and how to increase country’s exports. Imran Khan had made a clear cut commitment of introducing a uniform energy price for the exporting industry across the country, which would also be competitive regionally.

He said the textile industry envisages undertaking BMR and green field investment initiatives to create exportable surplus, sustainable jobs and economic growth.

Gohar Ejaz has extended an assurance on behalf of the textile industry for supporting the government in achieving its target of economic growth and overcoming the unprecedented trade deficit.

Well based on the historic records , I believe from 2013 to 2015 , it was Nawaz Sharif & his Brother Shabaz sharif in charge of Punjab province.

It's pretty strange they could not solve Gas issue for 100 Factories in PUNJAB province their own province

export target was set at 35 billion dollars and we were well in the way to achieve this around 2014-2015 so than what happened..why suddenly export started to drop which didnt even happened in PPPP era where the exports increased from 20 to 24 billion...and goal was around 35 billion by 2018

textiles were killed off by lack of gas, unrealistic rupee price and high labour cost

pakistan should let the rupee to market forces and not defend it apart from speculations..look at india rupee lost 15% this year that is more less same as our rupee lost (107 to 125 is 15%) while there reserves are strong

good move we also need to improve our marketing of products so exports become profitable in international market. Many similar products gain more share due to better advertisement and marketing than ours

It's really surprising no one every asked past government instead of wasting money you could have revived the Textile Industry first ??? 100 Factories are almost shut down? ?? It is one the most bizarre stories

While our industries are shut other countries are taking up the business
Not sure what was Nawaz / Showbaz were doing ??? They were in government for 5 years

they had big plans like metro train and orange crap now we are making billions from it otherwise people would die without such facility.

Well easy to see the impact of 100 Textile mills running again will be in Millions of additional dollars

Even if each company makes mere 1 million dollar profit that is a figure of 100 million Dollar added to economy

Impact of 100 Million to 250 million would be possible

They may hide this news but when these mills ramp up and start bringing in billions of dollars then there will be no where for them to hide. Allah al-haq hai.

The question is: who were behind the closure at the first place????? If proved guilty, it's a clear terrorism case!!!

The Beneficiaries Of NRO
