What's new

6th generation fighter contracts for both US Air Force and Navy likely to be awarded within next year

I wonder where China is with its 6th generation fighter program?

Since US has already flown one

Something occurred to me as I looked at every rendering of potential 6th Gen aircraft; a unique design for intakes and exhausts as well as having a variable cycle engine. New electromagnetic management (datalinks) and the chrome finish on the f-22 test bed add to make it evident a whole new level of full spectrum signature management (RF, IR, Electromagnetic, etc.) is required, hence the tailless delta designs.

The NGADs will probably be cross between the YF-23 and the B-21.

Rough timeline

US will pitch 6th Gen fighter, rest of the world will follow almost 10 years later.

The chief designer of the J-20 has hinted a 2025 maiden flight.

The 6th gen VCE engine has also started its ground test a decade ago, and China is confident that the maiden flight could carry the 6th gen VCE engine.
