LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has got offloaded 16 alleged beggars in the disguise of Umrah pilgrims from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia-bound flight at Multan airport two days ago.

According to the FIA, the group, consisting of 16 persons, including a child, 11 women and four men, was initially traveling on Umrah visas.

The FIA officials during the immigration process questioned the passengers who confessed that they were going to visit the KSA to seek alms.

They also revealed that they would have to give half of their earnings from begging to the agents involved in their travel arrangements. They were to return to Pakistan after the expiry of their Umrah visas. The FIA Multan circle arrested the passengers for further interrogation and legal action.

FIA says group includes 11 women and four men travelling on Umrah visas initially.
So, the Visas are issued to anyone who applies without verifying financial soundness to prevent becoming illegal migrant? Looks like the fault is with Saudi Arabia. The whole purpose of a visa is to verify the traveler is fit to travel in all respects, primarily financial.

Financially they are well set.

So, they are wealthy beggars? That is rich!

No.

These people are stuck in what can only be described as slavery. Held hostage or in bondage to local feudal lords they are lured into the business by the promise of eventually securing their freedom from their feudal lords.

The matter has even made its way to the Senate, where the Standing Committee of Overseas Pakistanis was informed that a staggering 90% of professional beggars arrested in Middle Eastern nations hail from Pakistan. Pakistani nationals are also disproportionately involved in petty crimes, such as pickpocketing, around the revered Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia.
