UNITED NATIONS, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday called on the UN Security Council to convene an international conference that would result in the recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders.

"We call for the convening of an international peace conference by mid-2018, based on international law and the relevant UN resolutions, with broad international participation and including the two concerned parties and the regional and international stakeholders," he said.

The outcome of this conference should be "acceptance of the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations," he noted.

The Palestinian president also expressed hope that the conference would result in "mutual recognition between the State of Palestine and the State of Israel on the basis of the 1967 borders."

Abbas called for the formation of an international multilateral mechanism that would assist the two parties in the negotiations to resolve the permanent status issues defined in the Oslo Accords.

Abbas also demanded that Israel halt settlement construction during any future negotiations, as well as any other unilateral moves that could have implications on a future peace deal.

The Security Council convened Tuesday for its monthly meeting. The item on the agenda is the Middle East situation, including the "Palestinian question."

This whole Mega Stunt Started when Hamas political wing (ruling Gaza which won Elections to rule whole Palestinian state) and Abbas started Reconciliation Process after many years of Boycott due to Political Differences.

Israel Tried to Pressure Abbas Government against this move by different tactics. But his government didn't give in to it.

It is not in Israeli Interest to see united Palestinian authority or Palestinians to have any Kind of Representation or Political Strength and of course not any Military.

That is nonsense , had the Palestinians been able to speak in one voice it would be easier for Israel to close a deal with a leadership that has the power and the authority to do so.

As for the palestinian unity , the issue is who is giving the tone. The Hamas who refuses any sort of agreement with israel . or the Fattah , who agrees on the two state solution but still only represent half of the palestinians and has no authority over Gaza.

All this attempts to seek solution by going to the UN or other organisation is just a waste of time. It is Israel they must engage in direct talks between the sides. Only this can lead to a the long due peace agreement.

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it's not too late

Words-adapted from The Bible, book of Ecclesiastes ...

It Seems Funny when Hindu Using Israeli Flags and QUOTES from Bible.:o:

Anyhow

It was not the Palestinian that are wasting time but on the contrary it is the Israelis.
Israel used the time it had from the last war with Arabs well.By Building more Settlements and Stealing Land and Demolishing Palestinians Ancestral Homes Blocking permits of Palestinians home Repair,Grabbing Olive fields of Poor Palestinian Farmers. there only livelihood.

Creating Compulsory Barriers between Palestinians by Road Blocks using Portable wall Blocks,Building new Settlements in such a way to annex more and more Poor Palestinians land right in between major Palestinian Villages.

There are new Built Roads in Palestinian west bank that they can't use it is only for Israelis or Tourist while making Steel cages around Palestinians homes so that they will be left with a single predetermined path to even walk same cages system used for animals in the Zoo being used for Human Beings.

I am Israeli not hindo

As for what you said , i am against the settlements but this is not what stopped the peace talks. Had the palestinian had a unified leadership it would sure make it easier to sign an agreement with them.

This inability for the palestinians to elect a leadership is not just a palestinian problem but typical to most middle east regimes , see what happened in Egypt not to mention syria. This region does not have a tradition of democracy and usually might makes right ...

This is exactly what happened to the Palestinians. They started well enough , they elected fattah and where on the right track , but than Hamas got elected and started throwing opposition members in Gaza from rooftops. This is no democracy when there is no opposition and the winner takes it all.

Sure there are those in Israel too who dont believe in the two state peace solution , but the majority in Israel do want peace. Had there was a unified Pal leadership their would be an enormous pressure on our leaders to close a deal.

Deal with Israel or peace talks is same like Temporary Pain Killers until Israelis could swallow all.

Israel does not want Peace these are just excuses been used from 60 years. These are just excuses used to show the World and to hide the Catastrophe Palestinians had to go through, the brutal punishment of Palestinians until they accept your Slavery terms.

It is apartheid and it will stay Apartheid on the Poor Palestinians,No matter how cunningly Israel tries to polish it's Image.

Palestinians have every right to defend there Ancestors Country which was in peace and religious harmony from Thousand of Years.Until Israeli Curse landed.

A day late and a dollar short..The Arabs, ie Egypt of Mubarak and KSA of Fahd dug the “Palestine” grave, Arafat buried it.and Mahmoud Abbas fertilized it with Mansonto herbicide...

Iran has it right(till tomorrow)-Israel will not make the appropriate concessions without force or serious survival pressure. FACTS.

There is no palestinian unity of government so how come they want a state
