I did a quick search on google and got these (military superstitions) from another forum (Military Photos . net)

1) Never step into a helicopter, or onto APC with your left foot.
2) Never shave before a mission.
3) Once done packing a parachute, spit 3 times, over the left shoulder.
4) When lighting a cigarette from someone else's match, always lightly hit their arm 3 times with your finger.
5) Never clean your boots in the morning.
6) Never sweep the barrack in the evening.
7) When loading a wounded guy, always load him with his feet facing the
truck (helicopter, APC).
Always kiss the last bullet before loading it into a magazine.
9) While jumping from the plane, always quickly turn your head slightly to the right.
10) Give a "name" to your rifle.

possible reasons:
1).Most people find their right foot to be more stable.
2).A beard may be good camouflage in the dirt.
3).WEIRD
4).I think its asking for a match from someone else, and in that case a single tap may cause the person to react violently thinking it an enemy trying to sneak up.
5).In case there is an attack in the morning and you are caught with your boots down and unable to find a temporary hiding spot to put them back on.
6). Because troops return to barracks in the evening with soiled and muddy boots. All the effort is turned to waste.
7).In case the truck drives off the guys head should be the thing hitting the ground.
8).For luck
9).Most drops were made from DC3 dakota's which have their doors on the left side, hence face right and you will be facing forwards to your relative motion.
10). You give a name to an object when you are attached to it and find it reliable.(your car for example). So giving the rifle a name allowed you to have confidence in your weapon and value it.
