Srinagar, December 11, 2010: In Occupied State of Jammu & Kashmir (OSJK), thousands of people staged Anti-India demonstrations in Budgam, Sopore and Kupwara and many other parts of OSJK against the continued human rights violations being committed by Indian armed forces.

People took to streets and staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations at Ompora in Budgam and main chowk in Sopore town. The protesters chanted slogans like, “We Want Freedom” and “Go India Go”.

The personnels of Indian armed forces resorted to brute force and fired teargas shells to disperse the protesters in the town.

On the other hand, arrest of two people, including a government employee triggered off protests at Lolab in Kupwara. Indian Army’s 28 Rastriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) during house raids arrested Abdul Rasheed (22) and Nisar Ahmad Shah (30) from Doosru Lolab. The duo was taken to undisclosed location by the joint team.

“Rasheed is a Class IV employee in Roads and Buildings Department and the lone bread-earner for his family which includes four sisters. We don’t know why the Indian Army arrested him,” said Rasheed’s relative, Abdul Rehman Sheikh.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old, Najeem Hussain was murdered by some unknown persons near Dharana in Mendhar while a six-year-old boy was injured after being beaten up by a trooper at Bakshi Nagar in Jammu.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has asked the international human rights organisations to send their teams to the territory to observe gross rights violations being committed by Indian armed forces.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the world rights organisations should impress upon India to stop gross human rights abuses in the occupied territory.

Geelani said that Indian forces had killed more than 100,000 innocent Kashmiris for the last two decades while 10,000 people had disappeared in custody. “The troops are using Kashmiri women as weapon of war. The discovery of 2,700 unmarked mass graves in the occupied valley is an evidence of troopers’ brutality meted out to the Kashmiris,” Gilani added."

Denouncing the killing of 122 unarmed innocent Kashmiri youth during the current agitation, the APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani said that the occupation authorities were shielding the guilty troopers involved in the killing of youth. “The (Indian) troops are martyring the Kashmiri people with impunity due to the invocation of draconian laws in the territory,” Geelani maintained.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani also denounced the illegal arrest of a teacher, Noor Muhammad Butt by Indian forces and termed it apolitical vengeance. He said that the authorities were victimizing the teacher for saying truth.

Meanwhile, the spokesman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) Jammu and Kashmir in a statement said that a seminar would be held on Kashmir at Haiderpora in Srinagar, tomorrow, which would be presided over by the APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani.

The Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League (JKPL) has appealed to the international community, United Nations, Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and world human rights groups to impress upon India to end gross human rights violations in Occupied State of Jammu & Kashmir (OSJK).

Leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference and the Acting Chairman of JKPL, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, addressing a public gathering at Ashmuqam in Islamabad, said that India’s claim of zero tolerance against human rights abuses proved to be a hoax in the backdrop of fake encounters and targeted killings of innocent Kashmiris by its armed forces over the past few months.

He urged India to stop the continued rights violations, withdraw its troops and repeal all black laws from the territory so that conducive atmosphere could be created for initiating meaningful tripartite talks to resolve the Kashmir dispute.

The APHC leader deplored that the occupation authorities had always tried to shield the culprits involved in the killings of innocent Kashmiri people. He said that Indian troops had unleashed a reign of terror across the occupied territory to suppress Kashmiris’ peaceful liberation struggle. “The troopers commit gross rights’ abuses with impunity in Kashmir due to the invocation of draconian laws by the authorities,” he added.

The Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) has demanded to constitute an international independent enquiry committee for probing the custodial killings and enforced disappearances across the territory.

The President of APDP, Parveena Ahanger, addressing the participants of a sit-in in Srinagar, said that they had been making the demand since decades but the Indian government had done nothing, so far. “India should ratify the convention on enforced disappearances, which it signed on 2007,” she added.

Appealing the international community to play its role in resolving the Kashmir dispute and bringing justice to the victims of rights’ violations, she vowed to continue the struggle till its logical conclusion. “On one hand India claims to show zero tolerance on rights abuses and, on the other, its troops are killing innocent people in the Kashmir Valley,” she maintained.

The pro-freedom leaders have appealed the international human rights organisations to take cognisance of the stepped up rights violations perpetrated by Indian armed forces in the territory.

The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Cofnerence (APHC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, in a statement issued in Srinagar, said that the world rights groups had not been allowed to visit the occupied territory (OSJK) for the last 20 years, which had provided free hand to the occupation forces to kill the innocent Kashmiris. Geelani strongly denounced the continued acts of Indian state terrorism across the Kashmir Valley.

On the other hand, the spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League in a statement denounced the illegal detentions of Hurriyat leaders including Masarrat Alam Butt, Aasiya Andrabi, Dr Muhammad Qasim Faktoo, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai, Abdul Ahad Para, Muhammad Yousuf Mujahid, Muhammad Yousuf Mir, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Fehmeeda Sofi, Muhammad Rafiq Rena, Muhammad Akram Najjar and others.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, Muhammad Farooq Rehamni, in a statement issued in Islamabad, said that the United Nations should impress upon India to settle the lingering dispute by implementing its resolutions.
