Argentina president Alberto Fernandez thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh for the support of people to the Argentina football team and the prime minister’s congratulations after the team won the World Cup.

Alberto Fernandez also announced to open an embassy of Argentina in Dhaka marking 50 years’ of diplomatic ties between the two countries in 2023.

The Argentina government revealed this through a letter sent to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the Bangladesh ambassador in Brazil who is concurrently in charge of Argentina.

Argentina president Alberto Fernandez hoped people-to-people relations between the two countries will be stronger through opening the embassy, said a media release issued by Bangladesh embassy in Brazil on Wednesday.

This is being viewed as a major success of the government in diplomacy in the North American region due to exchange of greetings by the heads of the governments of the two countries following Argentina’s winning of FIFA World Cup 2022.

The people of Argentina and the president of the country were amazed with the support the country got from Bangladeshis during the World Cup and celebrations in Bangladesh after Argentina became the champions of the world.

I am sure Argentina realizes how large of a market Bangladesh will be by 2030 (9th largest globally).

It is only logical that they'd want a piece of this pie (and maybe vice versa too).

Last year, Argentina exported US$3.37 billion worth of beef and cow leather – a 16.5% drop from 2019 – primarily to China, Germany and Israel, according to state statistics agency INDEC. This could be a great boon for leather industry value addition in Bangladesh - even high quality US workboots made in the USA use Argentinian top-grain cowhide, to say nothing about China or other countries making high quality leather products including bags and leather stationery articles.

Other exports include agri-produce like wheat, corn, chick pea, mung beans, black beans etc. which of course are far higher quality and even more agreeably priced (even considering long distance freight) than the stuff we can get next door.

Argentina by all means is a first world country - but historically beset by economic misfortunes. The infra in Buenos Aires and other large cities is very similar to that of the US. A major portion of Argentinians are Italians by ethnicity while there are other ethnicities too including Germans, and of course people of mixed parentage. It is a good thing to have bilateral relations with Argentina and I personally advocate for FTA with Argentina.

Here is what Indians imported from Argentina, about $4 Billions worth. I am sure pattern will be more or less same for Bangladesh with quantity lessened. As we can see - the imports are majority animal oil (probably beef tallow) products, $3 Billion worth.

Argentina president to open embassy in Dhaka in 2023
You are one in a million. Why did you change the title of the news?

And, do you understand really the difference between a title that reads, "Argentine will open Embassy in Dhaka---" and "Argentina President will open an Embassy in Dhaka"?

I see a great synergy here between the BD and Argentine economies.

BD is going to become a pretty big market over this decade for Argentina to export its foodstuffs, raw materials etc to and BD can in return export garments, home electronics, pharma etc to Argentina.

50 million population "Middle-income" Argentina has enough purchasing power to buy lots of Walton TVs, fridges etc.

Yep!

The love affair could be beneficial for both countries.

Argentina could be our bread and dairy basket.

And we could supply them with cheap home appliances and undies.

FTA with Argentina now pls! Hedge against Indian hegemony 😂🤣🤣

Strike whilst iron is hot!!!

This would also pacify the likes of @Bilal9 - I want him to sleep well at night. Worrying about fifth columnists keeps him tossing and turning at night!
