New Delhi: The 1.3 million strong Indian Army on Thursday donated over Rs 100 crore to thePrime Minister's Relief Fund after forgoing their one-day salary.

The cheque was handed over to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by Army Chief Dalbir Singh at the traditional "At Home" at Army House on the occasion of the 67th Army Day.

The function included an innovations display and a short movie 'Indian Army: The Pride of the Nation'.

Prime Minister Modi was also briefed on the innovations made by the Army based on their requirements.

The Prime Minister congratulated the Army Chief and exhorted the force to encourage the development of in house solutions for day-to-day and specific issues related to the Army.

Modi gave personally signed merit certificates and cash incentives to eight Army innovators.

He said that such initiatives are in tune with and give a fillip to the 'Make in India' effort of the government.

The Prime Minister also interacted with the 'Veer Naris' and award winners.

On the occasion of Army Day, an impressive parade was also organised at Army Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment, where Army contingents including eight Mechanised and nine marching contingents participated.

For the first time in the history of Army, a women officer contingent took part in the Parade showcasing 'Nari Shakti'.

Earlier in the day, wreaths were laid at Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate by the three service chiefs to commemorate the Army Day.

What a reciprocative gesture! Boosts the morale of the army and encourages more innovation! Hatts off.

And those at the bottom suffer as always---did someone ask the poor soldiers or the rankers what it would mean to them. Just a B S forceful act from the top bureaucrats---.

My father a very generous doctor---would be hopping mad when the govt cut his pay check for these kind of " forced " donations.

Just a day's salary sir! I dont think anybody would "suffer".

Pappy,

My father was a civil servant---when such a thing happened---so many poor workers would come and cry their heart for one days salary---and even junior officers who were honest men would be effected as well.

These forceful donations of govt employees should be stopped in india or in Pakistan---for ay donation to be made---there ought to be a written voluntary approval by the employee.

A good gesture but totally unnecessary. The amount of work they put in when natural disaster happens is more than enough.

Good job by the army but i wish this happened the other way around donation to the families of fallen soldiers who has fought for their country 25 lakhs each to the dead soldiers covers 400 families

Hmm.. maybe. But an army, which didnot do anything of this sort in 10 years[having uninterrupted access to ration and canteen], IMO, wont take a heavy toll.

Hi,

Thank you very much---that is what a soldier would agree with and I would too.

On an average Rs 500 for a soldier and about Rs 2500 for an officer. The last time I went for dinner with my wife to a hotel, it cost me Rs 3000!!

So what's the big deal? One can always sacrifice a meal at a good restaurant and donate instead to a worthy cause.
