What's new

Austerity measures to reportedly hit Pak Army. Massive cutdown of perks.

if u take these benefits from army than I don't think many would join.
secondly a 1 star is grade 20 officer. u can't take his benefits and don't take it from civilians in same posts.
third army chief is not fool to play with his men morale.
fourth all those messes and guest house are necessity for operational purposes.
fifth. even other government organizations are providing plots to their employees, then what's wrong in providing them to soldiers. its only difference between civilian officer and an army officer. take it and then no civilian will leave other jobs to join armed forces as short service commission. Why would they leave jobs with comforts, best duty timings and better pays for army job with same pay and facilities but less comfort and routine transfers.

Fake news, The paujis will rebel. Half of the attraction of the Army to recruits is perks.
The establishment culture is perks.
The Faujis would rather surrender again to the Indian army ten times than let go of these.
Remembered a note from History. Sultan Ghori wasn't being successful in conquering Hindustan. And, he put the blames squarely on the top generals!!! He put sacks of barleys around their necks and backs, and paraded them around the streets of Kabul!! And, he made a Turkic ex-slave Kutubeddin Aybek in charge of the next expedition, and the rest is history....

Yes, ruling isn't anybody's job....

if government really want to save money than start R&D projects for army instead of these so called great but slow projects and that too small and negligible. we got talent ,just utilize it.
let me tell u one thing, even China sell you items with almost 100 fold and sometime 200 times profit with respect to manufacturing and R&D cost.
a small system which can be built at home at 2-3 million rupees is imported from China at 60 million to 100 million price. and even the quality of product is pathetic.
we can save almost 20% of our budget if these called patriotic soldiers leave defence industry and allow the civilian engineers and scientists to work freely.

military establishment will never let it happened its a fake news

heavy kick backs are involved in these imports ... do you think they will let go showering money easily :D

This is not reliable nor credible at all.

This message has been circulating on whatsapp among different groups. There are two sides that claim as such but are driving this agenda for total different purpose & end results.

Couple of SMTs are circulating the rumor which in-case of official acknowledgement or denial, is going to benefit only two political Social Media teams. As per observations, so far two groups are involved in it. Austerity is not wrong and can be done in many ways but the theme of this rumor, certain forces backing this up and real agenda is way too different than what is apparently preached, advised or even claimed.

1. PTI Social Media (Young Guns being over passionate/impatient & unaware) are trying to prove that actually Imran Khan is more powerful against Military; only in contrast of all the stories surrounding Establishment under claims against Army etc that takes down any opposing person such as Junejo in past, and IK is a might to control anyone that even COAS bows to the pressure. From PTI side, it is only a matter of mighty IK thing which is eventually misrepresenting PTI due to wrong message.

2. PMLN SMT is taking full advantage of the moment and participating for same rumors over Whatsapp as counter productive. As, there is nothing discussed as such so even if someone brought it to the officials to confirm then obviously, will be denied as & when because it is fake which on other hand, will benefit Army hating/bashing PMLn Group (Mostly). They have Social Media Force and will spread twisted facts like fire within minutes or hours and will even make it a top trend to establish a wrong narrative contrary to the reality.

Remember that Military can cut down expenses from here & there but this message is a deliberate attempt to mislead & start yet another propaganda which may result in creating rift between Civilian Government & Establishment. There are forces behind these rumors which are utilizing inexperienced PTI young guns as well as PMLn SMT to spread. One of the media person even tweeted about the same and narrated it to PTI Whatsapp team that using it to project IK above all or strong enough to take on Military.

Now, in my opinion; either by PTI specific group or PMLN, apparently it isn't provocative for Military but it is all about misrepresent Military in the end. I will advise to not to fall for such baits and do not rely upon everything posted on Social Media. The whole theme is designed around a narrative of PMLN, PPPP and many other Army bashing accounts those who use to say that "Military is eating all the budget". This is all to project wrong picture, a well designed & covered propaganda and contains nothing in favour of Austerity at all.

Will your pessimism ever cease? Sometimes its better to say nothing you know...

Army men and Austerity Drive to cut out perks and expenses - Can never happen - Stop Dreaming.

First step of Imran Khan towards micro managing army!!!!!!!

UK Khan is trying to give impression that army is some how a similar to other institutes, whereas PAK army is the most efficient institution of the WORLD.
Every country of the world is willing to hire retired army officers at twice the money politicians like Zardari, and Imran Khan allocate for them.
While no one in world will hire Pakistani politicians.

I can't state anything factual about this thus only postulating. Also a fine line with sound reasoning should be taken while avoiding populist idiocy.

> Populist rhetoric aside, you have to consider the security aspects as well. Shoving all the senior officers out of their abodes to do so makes no sense. Is the same happening to other government departments?

2. All Army messes and guest houses will be privatized on the lines of KP govt tourism dept as million and millions are spent on its maintenance beside huge human resource is utilized / employed .

> Feasible. This can be done and privatized as long as a good clearance/security mechanism is in place to ensure civilians interacting in such capacity with military personnel are vetted.

3. Policy of alloting plots to army officers as service benefits shall be stopped forthwith except benefits of shuhadas

> Also feasible if monetarily some other adjustments are also made.

4. NCB or servant will not be provided as its misuse of human resources and burden of govt exchanger all Govt officers shall be treated under the same police .

> PAF did away with this a while ago and a batman/servant allowance was being given for personnel to hire own help.

5. All four star and below will be using only 1000 Cc cars as per federal govt policy .

> Impractical for 3/4 stars given the security threats. However keep in mind that prior to the GWOT, most senior officers were usually in a 1300CC car. So not entirely infeasible.

6. No air cargo or heli service will be allowed to any army officer . All officers shall be using road services for meeting and other official duties . Heli service will only be allowed after special permission from COAS on case to case basis

> This was always the case. All transport has to be requisitioned and approved.

7. All two star and below shall remove AC from their offices as per army rules and stand operating procedures .

> Again impractical and stupidly illogical. Why? Do you want to have officers in extremely hot stations passing out just because they are two stars and below? A fine line between reason and populist idiocy should be observed.

8. All Available DHA plots will be auctioned and amount will be deposited for Debt clearance and Construction of dam .

> Doubt anything in motion will change. Perhaps future schemes may be affected but I doubt this as well just because the DHAs contribute to the betterment of cities and eventually end up in the hands of civilians.

9. 50 % concession votuers is waved off .

> Why? Do the officers not have to travel and move their families to other stations in service of the nation? The military is the only profession inside of Pakistan where such mass moves happen. It would be stupid for such changes to be put in place.

10. All Army officers residences must be metered and they must pay electricity as per normal rates .

> Possible, but the military is responsible for the utility bills for as long as the officers and men are serving. While many may not understand the logic about why such benefits are given to military personnel let me explain. When officers and men are posted in service of their country to far away border areas, deprived of family contacts and the ability to help back at home, the military takes into consideration these hardships and to ease this, offers certain amenities for free. Once again, this job is unlike any other in Pakistan thus the types of benefits offered.

On average, whenever the LoC heats up, officers and men are on the borders for more than a year each time (minor leaves not counted).

Constructive criticism is good and fine, but when it crosses the line to be baseless venting, then its neither here or there.

challo there is always recruitment from cia as proxy group i wonder if it comes with perks like flat, greenbook fast track usa citizen, obamacare etc.

Not going to happen. Period. Ridiculous if IK thinks that it's even a remote possibility. Any one of the mentioned points.

Naya Pakistan with a twist is a bitter pill that IK will eventually have to swallow, else back to Purana Pakistan pretty soon.

Constructive criticism is good and fine, but when it crosses the line to be baseless venting, then its neither here or there.
1. If shoving out of homes that require excessive maintenance and upkeep is applicable to the Prime minister, I believe it can be done to all public employees including military officers; security considerations can be applied as they do to the PM and other public employees.

2. Military has no business running resorts. They can be allocated to ptdc and can be run in a similar fashion with similar access levels/privileges and scrutiny as given currently.

3. Monetary bonuses are common in the civillian sector as well. Whether for duration of service or achievements

4. A 1000cc car will have the same result as a local procured 1300cc one.
The family use car is the one objected to, or do you wish for me to outline exactly how many and what cars belong to each 2& 3
star?

I wonder if having 5 3200cc land cruisers that arent bulletproof or have mine resistant protection but do ferry the family around with allocated drivers and motor pool maintenance is security or luxury?
The officer may be allocated a bullet proof car that ensures his safety, but it makes no sense to waste resources to buy a car for each of his family members.

7. Agree on this, idiotic.

8. Prime allocation of DHA plots even in supposed “random” lotteries makes all allotments suspect and furher enforces an elite class image of the military.

9. Difference between posting moves and having non-essentials moved through transportation should be clear. This policy is enforced much along the lower and mid ranks but felters out higher up,

10. Electricity is subsidized for military installations either way. However if the officer has chosen to waive military accommodations for their own, then no subsidy should be provided other than a measured allowance reflecting the cost of living in the military housing.

Constructive criticism is only useful when the audience isn’t a knee jerk defense. The issue is not with those serving on the front lines or in proactive roles. However as is widely experienced and reported, the hardship endured during the pre-star period for military personnel does not always translate to a humble nature and living at the top. The lifestyles and usage of national funds for elitist living by the brass is well known, well documented(even in google maps) and is always the object of contention.
Appreciation of service does not equate to excessive usage and abuse of national funds especially when those same funds can be translated into austere measures. A colonial mindset requires mansions otherwise there is no problems with either two stars or three stars living within 4000sqft of living space.

The service and sacrifice for the nation is NOT exclusive to the Pakistan Army nor is continuous combat and deployments. What is common to them and other Junta nations is the standard of living accorded to the higher brass on national expenses that then leaves no difference or “exception” in career to that of bureaucrats or ministerial appointments engaging in excessive lifestyles and corruption(better left to another thread).
