Bangladesh did not expect Sri Lanka to pay back the loan so fast, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said.

Hasina informed President Wickremesinghe that she was pleased with Sri Lanka’s speedy recovery from the financial crisis.

Meanwhile, Wickremesinghe apologized to Hasina for not being able to visit Bangladesh in the past due to various commitments and circumstances.

He affirmed his desire to strengthen the ties between the two countries and proposed the possibility of visiting Bangladesh in November or December, aligning with the convenience of the Bangladeshi government.

Wickremesinghe held a fruitful meeting with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh in New York, the President’s Office said. The meeting cantered on various aspects of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two South Asian nations.

During the discussions, President Wickremesinghe extended his heartfelt gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the people of Bangladesh for their unwavering support and assistance to Sri Lanka during challenging times. He acknowledged the assistance received by Sri Lanka and expressed his profound appreciation for Bangladesh’s generosity.

In a more personal exchange, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina shared the tragic history of her family, recounting the devastating assassinations that had befallen her loved ones. The cordial conversation between the two leaders allowed for a deeper understanding of each other’s experiences and aspirations. (Colombo Gazette)

It took Hasina to pass her two year BA course in four years, but not without getting grace marks in two subjects.

I don’t know if one of the two subjects was Political science or not. But reading your post I feel Hasina should be appointed a teacher of economics once she fails in the January election.

Some people have academic intelligence and some have emotional intelligence.

Politicians need emotional intelligence more than academic intelligence.

Lot of Hasina detractors said the money would never be paid off 🤣
I suspect Modiji hand in this. India not only helped Sri Lanka secure $3 billion imf loan but gave $1 billion line of credit. Sri Lanka is not in a position to pay back it's debt on its own.

According to the Sri Lankan finance ministry, the country's foreign reserves had grown by 23.5% from US$1.7 billion in September 2022 to US$2.1 billion in February 2023, representing a US$400 million increase. Sri Lanka teeters on the edge of financial insolvency and has halted repayments on its international debts.

So, if you take out India’s gift - Sri Lanka’s situation actually got worse!

Her father did his best, unfortunately when a bigot only sees the worst of you, you are nothing more.

When he was captured, he could have been easily executed. It was a much callous world.

If her father was a complete baffon he would have been shot on site.

He was a risk taker, much more of altruistic man & leader . He went into hostile land, knowing he may be sacrificed in order to save what was then.

Obviously the guy calling "shots" would not have deared enter the land her father hailed. Partly coz of those bigoted glasses he wore.

A lot of people blamed China for the sorry state of Sri Lankans economy. Actually it was the collapse of tourism sector due to corona and unbridled corruption by Raja Pakse and his family that led to the bankruptcy of Sri Lankans' economy.

Yes, you could say that. SL defaulted last year because their debt grew to $70 billion and their reserves were down to 1.8 billion dollars.

Securing $3 billion IMF loan, Indias $4 billion credit line last year and $1 billion more this year from India, helped SL in restructuring its international debt. Also their tourism industry recently has seen a resurgence after Covid-19 years, and their foreign reserves are growing- which is a good sign of recovery.

Which university offers BA in two years?

It was in the entire subcontinent during British period that BA degree was given in two years. This continued for a few more years after 1947 in Pakistan/ BD. I do not know about India.

Please ask your seniors.

All thieves are clever than the highly educated house owners. It does not mean a thief can be a good administrator or a teacher like his victims.

This woman is a thief, an imposter, and a conspirator who organized the Grenade attack and killed her own party people on 21 August.

Hasina will be hanged for the conspiracy to kill military officers in the BDR Pilkhana. No wonder, she insists on hanging to power until her natural death.
