US President-elect Joe Biden is going to host the Democratic Convention for the second time. He will hold this conference jointly with four other countries of four continents on March 29 and 30 of this year. However, Bangladesh was not invited to this conference either.

The US has invited 111 countries including India, Pakistan, Nepal and Maldives in the second phase of the conference.

According to the US State Department, the four countries that have been added as joint hosts this time are Costa Rica, the Netherlands, South Korea and Zambia. The conference will be held in all five countries including the United States.

Government, private sector and civil society representatives will be invited. It will be discussed how democratic countries provide better services to citizens and how these countries are best prepared to deal with global problems.

Earlier, Joe Biden organized the first democracy convention in December 2021. The governments of the hundreds of countries participating in that conference made some 750 pledges to advance the practice of democracy, fight corruption and confront authoritarian rule.

This year's conference will discuss the implementation of those commitments.

Foreign Secretary Masood bin Momen said in this context, 'Countries like the United States regularly organize such conferences for various reasons. They invite countries to it from their own calculations.'

He also mentioned that the government is exchanging regular visits and exchanges with the US government at various levels.

Only democratic countries with democratic values have been invited. Bangladesh is an autocratic country ruled by one person at the behest of one political party named BAL which is in essence no different from North Korea.

America again showed the way to Bangladesh. Accept the American proposition to revive democracy or get collapsed economically. BD has been forced to take an IMF loan with many conditions.

I believe, there are many more unwritten conditions behind this IMF bailout money. One unwritten condition is to hold an election under a caretaker govt.

While not perfect Bangladesh is no North Korea

Bangladesh is currently not a democracy under any barometer.

However whilst many of repressive features of dictatorship is present it is also not wholly a dictatorship.

I would describe it as more of a kleptocracy of politician/businessmen working to maintain status quo where they monopolise state power to gain economic power.

A large percent of the nation is fine with it as long as the economy keeps growing as opposition simply reflects another group of kleptocrats.

BD objectively is an imperfect democracy....having said that we should not feel slighted to not get an invitation. I would say it is a good thing and helps with our balancing act with global and regional powers.

However those who believes that BAL has legitimacy should reassess. Global opinion can not be silenced as easily as incountry media.

Currently pak is worst then North Korea, because US was the mastermind of regime change in pak so they have no other choice other then inviting pak

You are talking in terms of the past tense and I am talking in terms of BD's future, short or long-term..

BD is already a one-party govt without acceptable elections. Without American influence through various methods, BD will certainly fall into the China trap and will go inside its influence.

That is another North Korea in the making and it is inside the belly of the free world between India and SE Asia. Look at the map.

North Korea is a massive gulag There are hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis visiting the outside world

BD is a quasi-dictatorship and so this is not relevant for it.

USA is just one of the "Big 3" countries that really matter for BD over the long term- USA, China and India.

in the long run would Myanmar be in the list ?

Irrelevant.

Myanmar can obtain great economic benefits by normal relations with BD.

So much energy and agricultural exports and BD investments are up for grabs.

The ball is in their court.

This is a thread on America has not invited a fascist non-democratic country. Pakistan govt is elected by voting by the population.

The gob has not been elected by a popular voting.

Current pak govt is not elected by the people of Pakistan but installed by most controversial fascist military dictator general bajwa on the orders of USA

Yes, this is what many of you claim. But, does not this govt have a majority in the Parliament? I do not think it is a minority govt. Even a minority govt is also OK.

Why do you think a govt is elected directly by the people? People;e elect MPs or MNAs and they elect a new govt. This is how the IK govt was ousted and the Shabaz govt was formed.

The majority must be granted.
