The Asian Cricket Council has decided to host the Asia Cup in Bangladesh. The other big news to emerge from the ACC's meeting in Colombo is that Afghanistan will be the fifth team in the competition.

Bangladesh's status as a host was in doubt following political turmoil in the country, which posed a security issue. In December, the West Indies Under-19 team had pulled out of their tour and returned home after an explosion near the team hotel in Chittagong. Apart from hosting the Asia Cup, which begins on February 27, Bangladesh are also scheduled to host the World Twenty20 from March 16.

"As of now, the decision has been made that Bangladesh will retain hosting rights of the Asia Cup," BCB's acting CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said. "We have given a very good presentation to the ACC board members, and they have been convinced that we can host the tournament. Afghanistan has also been added to the tournament, making it a five-team event and the number of matches has gone up to eleven."

Great step by ACC...slap on face of those who wanted venue to be changed. I hope even T20 WC takes place as scheduled in Bangladesh. Cricket crazy nation like Bangladesh deserve to host such tournaments. Another great news is that from this edition even Afghanistan will take part in Asia Cup
